Vancouver’s mobile gaming industry is rallying around those recently laid off by hosting a job fair May 3 that will be attended by various mobile gaming companies that are hiring.

The most recent and severe layoffs came April 25, when Electronic Arts Inc. (Nasdaq:EA) closed two local EA studios: PopCap and Quicklime.

United Front Games also recently announced a studio closure and layoffs.

Vancouver Social Games, A Thinking Ape and EXP Bar are hosting the job fair, which so far has more than 100 people already signed up to attend.

The list of studios participating in the job fair at 1 p.m. at EXP Restaurant + Bar includes:

  • East Side Games;
  • Hothead Games;
  • DeNA;
  • IUGO Mobile Entertainment;
  • Kabam; and
  • Gamehouse.

“We think this is a great opportunity to show the community that despite layoffs and closures, Vancouver has a booming games industry with great people willing to work together to help each other find work,” said Tayber Voyer, founder of the blog and meetup group Vancouver Social Games.
