Seasoned journalist Kirk LaPointe is returning to the newspaper landscape to serve as Business in Vancouver Media Group’s new vice-president of audience and business development.
The former managing editor of The Vancouver Sun and senior vice-president of CTV News joins the BIV team October 13.
“I know from living here how (BIV is) considered to be the central source of business news and information in the community,” LaPointe said.
“I’m looking forward to working with the group to develop some ideas for growth and opportunities to reach new audiences, so it’s quite exciting to come back into newspapering.”
As vice-president of audience and business development, LaPointe will identify and pursue new markets for BIV’s newspaper and magazines.
He said the new job also includes writing a column and “ensuring that the rigour and the quality of all of the content that BIV produces remains strong.”
LaPointe, who ran for mayor of Vancouver in 2014, is an adjunct professor at the University of B.C.’s Graduate School of Journalism and begins hosting duties on Roundhouse Radio in the coming weeks.
