As local TV producers strategize to leverage digital platforms effectively, White Rock-based documentary filmmaker Parallax Film Productions has hired New York transmedia heavyweight Starlight Runner to help it craft its digital strategy for its Battle Castle interactive TV series.
Starlight Runner has previously worked on a number of major movies projects, including TRON, Transformers and Avatar.
Parallax hired Starlight Runner to help it mount a social media campaign for Battle Castle – described as “an interactive, trans-medieval journey into castle engineering, bloody siegecraft and epic clashes that transform mortals into legends.”
The show, which has been sold to and is now airing on History Television, features castles in Syria, France, Spain, Wales, Poland and England.
In each case, Parallax has selected a castle that represented a technological pinnacle of its age, faced a siege and played a role in the outcome of history.
“For example,” said Parallax partner and series producer Maija Leivo, “the fall of Chateau Gaillard represents the collapse of England’s power on the continent and the rise of modern France.”
Last month, Business in Vancouver explored how local TV production companies are struggling to find a business model in digital content.
