Vancouver ad agency McKim Advertising will be the first inductee into the Advertising Wall of Fame on May 30 at the Museum of Vancouver.
McKim is the agency that created the “Super, Natural British Columbia” ads for Tourism BC (now Destination BC) and Chevron’s slogan “Your town pump.”
The new award has been created by the National Advertising Benevolent Society (NABS) and the Museum of Vancouver and is in recognition of McKim’s work throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including the Chevron ads, which aired for two decades.
“This was a campaign that built and held No. 1 share for Chevron,” said former McKim creative director and general manager Alvin Wasserman, who is now president of Wasserman + Partners Advertising. “It won hearts and minds in a category few noticed or cared about before the Town Pump came on the scene.”
An induction ceremony will feature examples of print and TV advertising and “behind-the-scenes stories and anecdotes from a time when big ideas flourished in our local advertising community.”
Tickets for the ceremony – a joint fundraiser for the museum and NABS – are $125, and include canapés and cocktails.
