The TV production company behind such shows as The Real Housewives of Vancouver and the Canadian crime drama Motive is rejigging its upper management slightly with the introduction of a new chief operating officer.

Trevor Hodgson began overseeing Lark Productions’ business and legal affairs in early October.

Prior to joining Lark Productions, he spent 13 years with Vancouver-based Paperny Entertainment and two years with B.C. Film.

At Paperny, Hodgson secured the format rights to the reality TV cooking challenge series Chopped and adapted it into Chopped Canada.

In July, Entertainment One (LSE:ETO) purchased Paperny Entertainment, which specializes in unscripted TV.

“I found myself driving out to Bridge studios where we shoot Motive and it was so great walking through the studio and every second or third person was like, ‘Hey, how are you doing?’” Hodgson said.

“It was like coming back home to the scripted side. And just kind of including the scripted and unscripted is kind of my ultimate dream.”

He said Lark is going to continue to focus on creating shows with international legs.

Hodgson acknowledged Vancouver’s location — far from both Hollywood and Ontario, the hub of TV distribution in Canada — could lend itself to isolation.

“At other times we find it might be an advantage to come from Vancouver because you can kind of set up those special meetings with broadcasters where you’re just not seeing them everyday,” he said.

“Future strategic partnerships is really going to make this company standout in Vancouver and in Canada.”
