Each week, BIV staff will share with you some of the interesting stories we have found from around the web.

I am a member of Generation X. You may know us Gen Xers as the amused folks watching from the sidelines as Millennials and Boomers argue about entitlement and avocado toast. Or you may not think about us at all. This is what happened in a recent story on CBSN. In a graphic labelled, “Generation guidelines defined by birth year,” the news organization categorized everyone born from 1928 to the present day into their own generations. But, oops...they missed those born between 1965 and 1980. GenXers have reacted on social media (yes, we are on there too) with what writer Ed Mazza calls the “Most Gen X response to being left off the list”: we don’t really seem to care that much. - HuffPost
Mark Falkenberg, deputy managing editor:
A healthy diet is one made up of at least half fruits and vegetables, with whole-grain foods and protein rounding out the other half of the plate, according to Health Canada’s updated guide Canada Food Guide. Perhaps not surprisingly, the country’s meat and dairy industries find the revamped guide’s reduced emphasis on food from those sectors hard to swallow. - Globe and Mail

This is the next billion-dollar industry to watch. (And Vancouver will be making its eSports debut with an Aquilini-owned Overwatch League team this February.) - CNBC

The most gripping reading of the week was B.C. Speaker Darryl Plecas’ report. It’s an entertaining read for a legislative document and is worth reading in full, even though there have been many articles written to summarize the alleged incredible expensing done by the now-suspended legislature clerk and sergeant-at-arms. - B.C. This engaging profile reveals the folksy approach of B.C. billionaire Jimmy Pattison and provides an overview of his Jim Pattison Group. It appeared around Christmas and I recently stumbled upon it. - Bloomberg
Tyler Orton, reporter:
Taking a deep dive into the U.S. president's negotiation skills — stretching back into the 1980s — reveals a great deal about where the Americans are moving forward in terms of everything from trade to diplomacy to a government shutdown. - New York Times
