As hotel chains increasingly court travellers as competition intensifies, Victoria-based Accent Inns has started promoting a discount for people travelling for medical reasons.
Business development manager John Espley told Business in Vancouver March 16 that his company has entered a partnership with owners of 18 B.C. franchises of Ontario-based Medichair to tell customers that if they travel for medical reasons they can get 20% off at Accent Inns.
Medichair is similar to Langley-based Pharmasave in that it sells crutches and medical equipment, but it also has mobility products such as scooters, bathtub chairs and specialized lifts.
“We’re lowering our rate for people who are travelling for medical reasons, but a lot of people don’t know to ask for the discount,” Espley said.
“It’s not the competition that drove this. It’s more of a caring thing.”
He added that the company takes people at their word if they claim to be travelling for medical reasons.
