British Columbians travel outside of Canada on vacation more than residents of any other province, according to a Vision Critical survey done on behalf of American Express Canada.
The survey revealed that 62% of B.C. residents travel outside Canada for leisure once a year or more. That's significantly more than second-placed Saskatchewan (57%) and third-placed Alberta (56%).
The study also found that nearly two-thirds of those B.C. travellers (63%) buy travel insurance or have travel insurance through work plans. That is significantly more than the Canadian average.
Nationwide, 49% of residents travel internationally for leisure at least once a year, the survey found. Only about half of those travellers buy travel insurance.
The study also found that, Canadawide:
- 74% read up on their destination;
- 72% exchange money for their trip as opposed to exclusively using credit cards;
- 72% check the weather forecast for their destination before they go.
