Canada’s travel deficit with the United States increased slightly in September compared with one month prior, Statistics Canada announced November 19.
Canadians took 4.66 million trips to the U.S. in September, an increase of 0.5% compared with August’s 4.64 million trips. Trips from the U.S. dipped by about 10,000 trips in September to 2.11 million trips – a drop of 0.5% from August.
Same-day car trips to the U.S. jumped 1.2% to 2.67 million trips.
Canadians’ international travel (other than to the U.S.) grew by 0.7% to 810 million from 805 million in August.
The number of visitors from other countries, excluding the U.S., dropped 2.9% to 394 million, from 406 million in August. The biggest drop was in travel from China and Japan, both falling 5.0%.
The greatest increase was in travellers from South Korea with a jump of 6.4%.
