Vancouver's Russell Breweries Inc. (TSX-V:RB) is planning to open a test brewery and brewpub restaurant in Hefei, China, the brewer announced yesterday.
Russell signed a technology and licence trademark agreement in October 2012 with Vancouver-based private equity company FVI Capital Inc. This agreement establishes a separate entity, Russell Breweries China Inc., that will be able to import, produce, package and sell Russell brands in China, Taiwan and Hong Kong.
"Our partners in China have broken ground on building its test brewery and adjoining brewpub-style restaurant in the city of Hefei," said Russell Breweries CEO Brian Harris.
"Scheduled to open this summer, the brewery will be the first in the region to offer high-end, small-batch beers to North American craft brewing standards."
Hefei is an industrial city in the Anhul Province in Eastern China, with a population of 5.7 million.
