McDonald’s Corp. (NYSE:MCD) plans to open approximately 30 stores across Canada, the company’s Canadian chief told Reuters.
The news outlet reports that, according to McDonald’s Canada President John Betts, the company plans to build more restaurants this year than it has in the last seven or eight years – and then ramp up further next year.
According to Reuters, the optimistic message comes just after the chain reported its worst quarterly restaurant sales growth in nine years.
In the October 19 earnings release, McDonald’s CEO Don Thompson attributed the company’s results to economic conditions.
“While our sales momentum and current financial results reflect today's challenging conditions, we continue to see significant long-term opportunities for brand McDonald’s and remain confident in the underlying strength of our business model,” he said.
McDonald’s would not confirm whether the chain’s Canadian expansion will include new stores in B.C.
