Finally…the new Vij’s has officially opened its doors in its new location on Cambie Street. While the restaurant still doesn’t take resos, the new and much larger location means that the line-ups should be much more tolerable.

Latab Food is now open for quick, healthy lunches Monday to Friday from 11 a.m., available for both grab-and-go and dine-in. The six-item menu is based on healthy bowls, such as the Superfood Salad, which offers a mix of whole grains, lentils, dried fruit and nuts, and fresh herbs in a creamy yogurt dressing served with homemade sprouted grain bread. Each bowl is built on a base of whole grain such as wild rice or wheat berries, then topped with a mix of locally-farmed vegetables, and sustainably-sourced meats or seafood. Prices are between $8 and $10, and the menu will change based on what’s seasonally available. There will also be coffee from Bows + Arrows, homemade kombucha and kefir, as well as fresh-pressed juices.

This February, the 12th annual Unsung Heroes festival returns to Blue Water Café. Chef Frank Pabst created the month-long event to bring awareness to local and unique seafoods, and help avoid species that are over-fished or harvested. Previous years’ dishes have included poached periwinkle, stir-fried jellyfish, and red sea urchin trifle. All dishes are available à la carte, and 10 per cent of the proceeds from every Unsung Heroes dish goes to the Ocean Wise program.

The sixth annual Vancouver Hot Chocolate Festival  is back January 16 through February 14, for a full month of multiple delicious iterations of this timeless hot beverage. Last year, more than 20 vendors created unique hot chocolate flavours (alongside paired sweet treats).

Full menus for all participating restaurants in Dine Out Vancouver have been available as of January 6. Book early, as many restaurants routinely sell out.

Tickets are now on sale for select events during the Vancouver International Wine Festival, this year running February 20-28. All public tickets will go on sale on January 12. This year’s festival focuses on the wines of Italy.
