The Summerland Chamber of Commerce has launched a free roadside WiFi hotspot designed to help visitors find goods and services.
Built with funding from Shaw Cable, the new WiFi hotspot is located at a tourist kiosk at the Tout Pullout on Highway 97, north of Pentiction.
When visitors pull over at the kiosk, they can use their smartphones, tablets or laptops to log on and will automatically be taken to a launch page that provides information on local restaurants, accommodations, attractions and shopping.
"Visitor services are a gateway to the community so by providing this new WiFi location, we have the opportunity to showcase our members and draw people off the highway into our inviting downtown," Summerland Chamber president Arlene Fenrich said in a press release.
Summerland is located north of Pentiction on the west side of Okanagan Lake.
