Tourism, hospitality groups merge conferences

The Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC) will merge its annual conference later this year with other organizations representing the hotel, campground and food and beverage industries into one mega-conference.

The Tourism Industry Association of BC (TIABC) will merge its annual conference later this year with other organizations representing the hotel, campground and food and beverage industries into one mega-conference.

In the past, the TIABC has held its own conference, while the BC Hotel Association (BCHA), Alliance of Beverage Licensees of BC (ABLE) and the BC Lodging and Campgrounds Association (BCLCA) jointly held the BC Hospitality Industry Conference.

A new super-conference is scheduled to be held November 4 to 6 in Vancouver.

“Many of our members and potential delegates are small business owners who find it difficult to take time away from their business to attend industry events,” said ABLE executive director Raechelle Williams.

“By combining these two important conferences, we hope to ease that time pressure.”

TIABC chairwoman Lana Denoni said, “This is truly an exciting opportunity for the hospitality and broader tourism sectors to come together as a unified industry demonstrating our resolve to work together to continue to grow tourism and grow business in 2012 and beyond.”

To come up with a name for the new conference, the organizers are having a contest. The winner gets a complimentary registration to the conference valued at $500. Visit www.bctourismindustryconference.ca to enter. Submissions are due February 27.
