Travel to Canada from the U.S. dropped 1% in November 2012, more than cancelling out an increase in trips to Canada from other countries, according to Statistics Canada.

Canada saw a modest increase of trips from abroad in November 2012 – 387,000, a 1.1% increase. But it was more than cancelled out by a drop in visits from the U.S.

There were 1.7 million trips to Canada from the U.S. in November 2012 – a 1% decline over October 2012.

While trips from the U.S. lasting one or more nights declined 1.9% to 963,000 trips, same-day car trips to Canada increased 0.4% to 622,000 trips.

In the other direction, Canadians took 5.5 million trips abroad in November 2012 – up 0.3% from October 2012. Of that, 4.7 million trips were to the U.S. – a 0.3% increase. Same-day car trips by Canadians to the U.S. increased 1.1% to 2.7 million trips.

Canadians took 809,000 trips to overseas countries in November – the highest number of overseas visits since StatsCan began keeping track of those numbers in 1972.
