How much would you spend per night to stay in a hotel consisting of luxury tents on Vancouver Island?

According to a survey conducted by TravelMag.com, the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort is the most expensive hotel in North America – and the eighth most expensive hotel in the world – with an average nightly price of $3,681.

This is no ordinary hotel; guests stay in tents to experience what the resort bills as glamourous camping or “glamping." The tents have indoor and outdoor showers, wood stoves and antiques. Guests are flown in by seaplane from Vancouver or Tofino.

The two most expensive hotels in the world are found in the Seychelles: North Island Lodge in Mahe at $6,995 per night and Fregate Island at $5,246.

The only other Canadian hotel to make the top 20 was the Queen Charlotte Lodge in Naden Harbour ($2,385 per night). Only one American hotel made the list: The Ranch at Rock Creek in Philipsburg, Montana ($2,385 per night).

The full list can be found here.

The prices represent the lowest average price per couple, per night, during the months of July and August. TravelMag.com got the pricing info by looking at the hotels’ websites, speaking to them by phone or checking online hotel-booking websites.

Is the Clayoquot Wilderness Resort worth the money? Guests on TripAdvisor.com have given the resort five-out-of-five stars. One guest complaint: “No room service because of bears.”
