White Spot Restaurants has become the first restaurant operator in B.C. to be certified under go2hr’s certificate of recognition program – a recognition that comes with the added perk of being eligible to receive up to 15% off WorkSafeBC premiums.
Go2hr, B.C.’s tourism industry human resource association, has partnered with WorkSafeBC to operate the program, which certifies hospitality and tourism businesses that go above and beyond legal requirements to take a best-practice approach to implementing health and safety programs.
The program launched in 2010 and has certified 39 businesses so far, including 24 hotels, 10 ski areas and two golf courses.
“The certificate of recognition program is one way restaurants in B.C. can demonstrate their commitment to employee safety and customer service while strengthening their bottom line at the same time,” said Arlene Keis, CEO of go2hr.
“With an anticipated 9% increase in the WorkSafeBC annual premium base rate for the restaurant sector in 2014, it’s important that restaurant owners work together on reducing workplace accidents, which in the long run will help reduce the overall claim costs.”
