Workplace engagement levels in Canada have stagnated according to a new study by Aon Hewitt (NYSE:AON), a US management consulting firm.

Approximately 69% of Canadian workers and 64% of U.S. workers feel engaged in their job according to the the Trends in Global Employee Engagement study, which surveyed more than four million employees including 1.7 million North Americans. This represented no change in Canadian workplace engagement levels and a 1% increase south of the border for 2015.

Neil Crawford, the Canada Talent Practice director and partner at Aon Hewitt said the only areas to see growth in terms of employee engagement were in the Maritimes.

“With the exception of Newfoundland and Labrador, we see declines in overall engagement levels as we move across the country from East to West. The desirability of living in the West coupled with high living costs, stagnant pay and soft labour markets means that many may be in roles or organizations that do not fully meet expectations.”
