Two-thirds of Canadian workers plan to take vacation time this summer in weeks that follow a long weekend, according to a study that Expedia.ca released May 15.
Most Canadians (58%) consider the upcoming Victoria Day long weekend to be the start of summer, even though the season does not officially start until June 21
The survey also revealed that when planning summer vacations, more than half (54%) of respondents said that they at least “sometimes” try to strategically book around long weekends so they can enjoy a full week off when only booking four days of vacation from their employers.
Only 25% of the 1,000-plus respondents to the online survey said that they have vacation plans for this Victoria Day weekend.
Canadians who take vacations around long weekends are far more likely to go somewhere in their home province (60%) than to another province (12%), to the U.S. (14%) or to an international destination outside the U.S. and Canada (14%).
