Social enterprises are invited to apply for Trico Charitable Foundation’s nationwide Social EnterPrize Awards.
The awards celebrate leadership and excellence in social entrepreneurship. Past winners include two Vancouver businesses:
- Potluck Café, a restaurant and caterer; and
- Mission Possible, a property maintenance business.
Both businesses are located in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and employ residents from the neighbourhood.
“The greatest effect was that we had our name out there, people started looking at us and respecting the work that we did,” said Brian Postlewait of Mission Possible.
The awards are divided into two categories: organizations with revenues and assets under $1 million and those with revenues over $1 million. Cash prizes total $80,000. The awards will be presented at the 2013 Social Enterprise World Forum in Calgary in October 2013.
Social enterprises are businesses, or non-profits that operate a business, that aim to incorporate social, environmental or cultural benefits within their business model.
