Sudip Ghosh has been appointed senior sales manager for Canada at FTSE Russell, the global index provider. Ghosh has more than 16 years of experience in the financial services industry and most recently worked as senior institutional account manager at Morningstar Research Inc. Ghosh is based in Toronto.
Kevin Ladner has been appointed executive partner and chief executive officer at Grant Thornton LLP Canada, replacing Phil Noble, who will continue to work with the firm as a strategic adviser. Ladner joined the firm in 1985 and has held a variety of leadership roles; for the last nine years he worked as regional managing partner for Atlantic Canada as a member of the firm’s national management team.

Tammey George has joined the management team at Alexander Holburn Beaudin + Lang LLP as business development manager. George has more than 20 years of experience developing and leading communications and marketing programs for private and public companies throughout North America. Her expertise includes corporate communications, media relations, issues management, project management, crisis communications and marketing.

Deanna Horn, associate broker at Re/Max Treeland Realty in Langley, has been elected president of the British Columbia Real Estate Association (BCREA) for 2016-17. Joining Horn as officers of the association are president-elect Jim Stewart, 460 Realty in Nanaimo; past president Scott Russell, Sutton Group – Seafair Realty in Richmond; and chief executive officer Robert Laing. BCREA also welcomes new directors Brenda Jackman (Victoria), Gisela Janzen (100 Mile House) and new public director Diane Dou. Returning directors include David Kearney (Port Coquitlam), Gary McInnis (Victoria), James Palanio (Penticton) and Dick Pemberton (Kamloops). The association also welcomes returning public director Anthony Ariganello.

Sophia Cote and Izabela Leszko have recently joined Citizen Relations as account managers, and Cecilia Kim and Crystal Kwon have been promoted to senior account executive and account director, respectively. Cote was most recently with the Berlin offices of a global PR agency with clients such as Facebook, BlackBerry and Turkish Airlines. Leszko has extensive experience creating and executing campaigns for global companies such as Disney and Yellow Pages, as well as for resource-sector clients including the Sustainable Forestry Initiative.

Name change
The Pacific Traffic Education Centre at the Justice Institute of British Columbia has rebranded to the JIBC Driver Education Centre to better reflect the education and training it provides for drivers and employees. In addition to administering the TaxiHost Pro Program, the Driver Education Centre provides the Graduated Licensing Program Instructor Course for ICBC-approved instructors, and contract driver training courses for businesses and organizations.
Avison Young has acquired Calgary-based appraisal firm Linnell Taylor Lipman and Associates Ltd. The Calgary firm has been rebranded as Avison Young, adding 14 employees to Avison Young’s operations, including three new principals – Terry Taylor, Robert Lipman and Patrick James. Avison Young previously acquired Metrix Realty Group (Ontario) Inc., a property appraisal company, on January 4, 2016, when 30 members joined Avison Young.

NorLand Ltd. donated $40,000 to the CKNW Orphans’ Fund. The funds will be directed to help provide safety and security measures for children with mental, physical and social challenges.
Children of the Street Society recently recognized four longtime supporters at its recent Celebration of Success event. Canadian Tire’s Coquitlam location received the Partner in the Community award for donating more than $10,000 in parts and labour for servicing the society’s two work vehicles. CKNW Orphans’ Fund received the Partner in Intervention award for providing $56,000 in grants in support of the society’s Youth Art Engagement project. SpencerCreo Foundation received the Partner in Prevention award for the foundation’s support of $450,000, which has supported a variety of the society’s programs over the years. PLEA Community Services Society of BC received the Partner in Support award for the organization’s many years of partnership.
100 Women Who Care Vancouver, a membership-based group that donates money to charities, non-profit and grassroots organizations, recently donated $6,300 to Dress for Success Vancouver, an organization the provides women with professional attire, career services and skills development programs.
A Coquitlam-based qigong group recently donated $1,200 to Crossroads Hospice Society. Each week for the past 15 years, participant Laion Lee has been collecting donations for Crossroads. The donations have helped with recent renovations at the hospice and replacement of comfort items for patients, such as TVs. Since 2002, the qigong group has donated more than $18,000 to the hospice.
Burnaby Hospital lottery booth volunteers donated $10,000 to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation. The funds will go toward the purchase of much-needed medical equipment.
Scotiabank donated $30,000 to Easter Seals BC. This is the first instalment of the bank’s three-year commitment to the Comforts of Home program.
The RBC Foundation donated $20,000 to Chor Leoni’s Men’s Choir through its RBC Emerging Artist Project. The funds are directed toward the choir’s educational outreach project, MYVoice, a 10-week program for guys aged 12 to 20, culminating in participation in the VanMan Male Choral Summit at the Chan Centre. The MYVoice program aims to instil confidence and help young men find their voices, have fun and experience the joy of singing in an all-male ensemble.
The Loyal Protestant Association donated a $5,000 grant in support of the Down Syndrome Research Foundation’s educational programs for students of all ages with Down syndrome.
The Shewan Foundation donated $31,000 to YWCA Fraser Gardens in Langley, YWCA Metro Vancouver’s safe and affordable housing community for single mothers and their children. The funds support the work of a community development worker, enabling families to receive vital support, connections and information. •
