Nathan Stolarz has joined ZGF Cotter Architects after relocating from Boston, Massachusetts. Stolarz has more than 10 years of experience across urban design, mixed-use, multi-family, commercial, civic, retail and hospitality design. He was also the coordinating architect and urban planner for Boston’s 2024 United States Olympic Committee.

Education

Michael den Haan has been appointed vice-president advancement and alumni engagement at Simon Fraser University (SFU). He was previously associate vice-president, principal gifts, at University of Waterloo in Ontario, where he was responsible for the growth and development of a pan-university principal gifts program. Den Haan will assume his position at SFU effective September 14.

Forrest Tittle will join the British Columbia Institute of Technology as dean of the institute’s school of energy, effective October 10. He has spent more than 20 years with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), where he currently serves as dean of the school of applied sciences and technology. Forrest also oversees NAIT’s applied research programs at the Centre for Oil Sands Sustainability, and the Boreal Research Institute.

Health/Medical

Greg S. Reid and Alex Bayer have been appointed directors of PreveCeutical Medical Inc. Reid has more than 20 years’ experience in sales and marketing, and has served as CEO of several companies. Bayer is the principal of Vancouver-based Bayer Law Corporation, and has more than 10 years’ experience advising public companies on issues of corporate governance, securities law and continuous disclosure.

Ezra Gardner has been appointed to the board of directors of Fortress Paper Ltd. Gardner is the co-founder of Varana Capital Partners LP, a New York-based investment partnership, where he is also a partner. Prior to founding Varana, Gardner was lead project manager and managing partner at KCPS/Omnium Capital Management, a $500-million asset management fund based in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Blair Schultz has been appointed to Gold Jubilee Capital Corp.’s board of directors. Schultz currently serves on the board of directors for Klondex Mines Ltd. and Eastmain Resources Inc.

N. Eric Fier, president and CEO of SilverCrest Metals Inc., has taken a partial leave of absence for medical reasons. Dunham L. Craig, director, has been appointed interim CEO on a temporary basis.

Brian Wesson, Clyde Wesson and Mark Gelmon have been appointed to the board of directors of Astur Gold Corp.; all prior directors have resigned. Wesson has also been appointed president and CEO, Gelmon has been appointed chief financial officer and Marion McGrath has been appointed corporate secretary.

David Howe has resigned from Endeavour Silver Corp. as vice-president operations and country manager. An executive search is under way and Endeavour president and COO Godfrey Walton will assume Howe’s portfolio until a new candidate is appointed.

Myron Manternach has joined Lithium Americas Corp. as executive vice-president, finance and corporate development. Manternach has more than 20 years of experience in corporate finance, mergers and acquisitions, and investment management. Most recently he was a managing director and senior portfolio manager of Ambac Assurance Corp., a subsidiary of Ambac Financial Group. He is chairman of Wellgreen Platinum Ltd. and was previously a director of Lithium Americas Corp. prior to its merger with Western Lithium.

Joe Montgomery has resigned from the board of directors of Almaden Minerals Ltd. David Strang has been appointed as a director. Strang currently serves as director, CEO and president of Ero Copper Corp. and is a managing partner of Ero Resource Partners.

Resja Campfens, Stephen Cheeseman, Steve Davis, Murray Margolis, Martin Mullany, Colleen Giroux-Schmidt, Bill Payne, Ron Percival, Judith Sayers, Dan Woznow and David Warner have joined the board of Clean Energy BC.

Christian Milau, David Laing,Peter Hardie, Scott Heffernan and Sebastian D’Amici have joined Luna Gold Corp.’s executive team. Milau will serve as CEO and director, Laing as COO and director, Hardie as CFO, Heffernan as EVP exploration and D’Amici as SVP finance. All come directly from True Gold Mining Inc.

Transportation

John Coupar has been appointed president of Novex Delivery Solutions, one of the largest same-day couriers in the Lower Mainland. Coupar joined Novex as vice-president of sales and marketing in March. He has helped many companies in the Lower Mainland plan and execute business opportunities over the past 25 years.

Hats Off

Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.

The Mechanical Contractors Association of BC donated $1,420 to the Alzheimer Society of BC. The funds were raised through the Vancouver Golf Tournament, organized by Claude Nobauer of Control Solutions Ltd.

The 2016 Goldcorp Invitational Golf Tournament raised almost $320,000 for Special Olympics BC. The donation will support sport programs, competitions and other opportunities for individuals with intellectual disabilities. The tournament’s sponsors included Goldcorp, Silver Wheaton, CIBC, BMO Capital Markets, Canaccord Genuity, Cassels Brock, Scotiabank and TD Securities.

The Hamber Foundation donated $5,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland in support of the agency’s Study Buddy program. The program matches Little Sisters with volunteer tutors who offer them academic guidance and support.

Friends of theVancouver Public Library (VPL) donated $20,000 to the VPL Foundation. The donation will support VPL programs and spaces.

Michael Isman, owner, Royal City Jewellers in New Westminster, donated $15,000 to the Douglas College Foundation in honour of his retirement. The funds will be able to support, each year, three students with financial barriers to education for 10 years. •
