Stephanie Zuke and Cory Norman have joined Gage-Babcock & Associates Ltd. as business development manager and project engineer, respectively. Zuke has more than 17 years of professional services marketing experience, particularly in engineering and architectural services. Since 2010, Zuke has served on the board of directors for Commercial Real Estate Women and is a past president of the Vancouver chapter. Norman is a professional engineer with a background in mechanical engineering and more than a decade of experience in client relationship management.

Marcus Brandt and Melissa Cully have joined DMCL Chartered Professional Accountants as managers to its Vancouver private enterprise team. Brandt specializes in providing accounting and assurance services to private corporate groups, owner-managed businesses, real estate development corporations and professional corporations. He also provides accounting and taxation services to private corporations, partnerships, family trusts and individuals. Cully specializes in providing accounting services to various industries such as real estate, sales and marketing companies, professionals and partnerships.
Roger Hinshaw has been appointed head of Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s newly created Pacific Northwest region for commercial banking, leading a team that delivers the full resources of the bank to companies and institutions in Washington, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming and Vancouver. Hinshaw will also continue in his role as Bank of America’s market president for Oregon and Southwest Washington.

J. D. Springett has been appointed to THC BioMed Intl Ltd.’s newly formed advisory board. Springett brings seven years of experience in the newly emerging medical cannabis industry, beginning with Cannabis Science in 2008. He has extensive knowledge and experience in the medical marijuana sector and is highly sought after as a design and training expert for licensed medical marijuana facilities.
Human Resources
Shelley Johnson has joined Nasco Staffing Solutions in the newly created position of director of events and operations, Western Canada. Johnson has more than 20 years of experience in special event management and relationship-building, most recently as principal of SLJ Productions Inc. and as immediate past president of the Vancouver chapter of the International Special Events Society.

Borden Ladner Gervais LLP recently welcomed four associates to its Vancouver office. Each associate previously articled with the firm. Alexander Bjornson practises in construction and commercial litigation; Parisa Gerami practises in commercial real estate, real estate lending, hospitality and commercial real estate leasing; Allison Jaquish practises in insurance and tort liability, automotive and land transportation, aviation and labour and employment; and Tim Pritchard practises in commercial litigation, appeal and review and environmental litigation.
Rebecca Cynader has joined Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP as an associate. Cynader joins Farris after completing her clerkship at the Tax Court of Canada and her articles at a top-tier Vancouver boutique law firm.
Geoff White has joined Clark Wilson as counsel with its tax and estate planning and wealth preservation groups. White is a senior practitioner with 20 years of experience in wills, trusts, estate planning and administration and tax-related issues. He is an editor of the Continuing Legal Education Society of BC probate practice manual as well as an author and lecturer for the legal and wider community. White’s many involvements include past chair of the Canadian Bar Association’s National Elder Law Committee, and he is a current governor of the Law Foundation of BC. White assists clients both in the firm’s Vancouver office and at his long-standing office in Kelowna.

Sheila Bouman has been appointed chief executive officer at ViaSport British Columbia, effective September 8, replacing Cathy Priestner Allinger. Prior to this appointment, Bouman served as executive vice-president and managing director at Peer 1 Hosting. Bouman was also nominated for a 2014 YWCA Women of Distinction Award for her ability to drive innovation and strategic direction.
Mark Miller has been appointed executive director at the John Howard Society of the Lower Mainland of BC, a charitable organization that provides support and assistance to individuals with developmental disabilities, facing multiple barriers, transitioning out of the criminal justice system or those who are at risk of being affected by criminal events. Miller has more than 25 years of leadership experience in the public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Bryan L. Wallner has been appointed CEO of the Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia, succeeding Ivan van Spronsen, who previously held the position of executive vice-president. Prior to this appointment, Wallner was SVP for Canada and the U.S. Northwest for SP+ Corp., a provider of professional parking, ground transportation, facility maintenance, security and event logistics services.

T. Kent Elliott has been appointed to Vecima Networks Inc.’s board of directors. Elliott is a 35-year veteran of the Internet security and telecommunication industries. He replaces Barry Baptie, who is retiring from Vecima’s board. Scott Edmonds will take over the role of lead independent director. Elliott has held executive positions at ForeScout Technologies, Nokia, Vienna Systems, TMI Communications and Mitel Corp.

Scotiabank Bright Future donated $5,000 to Vancouver Friends for Life Society, a non-profit society offering help for people living with life-threatening illnesses.
KPMG Vancouver has recognized Randy Meszaros as a community leader who has volunteered with the Ridge Meadows Child Development Centre Society first as treasurer, then as president and board chair for the past three years. The non-profit organization supports pediatric rehabilitation and behaviour support services in the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows area.
Faubourg Paris donated $2,124 to St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation. Funds were raised via sales of macarons during the recent eighth annual International AIDS Society conference, in support of research and treatment efforts of the BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS at St. Paul’s Hospital.
Coast Hotels donated $22,000 to the Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Society of BC. ALS is also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. Funds were raised at Coast Hotels’ 13th annual Shuhachi Naito Golf Classic in Coquitlam. The tournament is named after a former senior executive at Coast, who died of ALS last year.
CMW Insurance donated $15,000 to Variety – the Children’s Charity. Funds were raised through the firm’s annual charity golf tournament at the Mayfair Lakes Golf & Country Club in Richmond. This is the second year of a three-year commitment to Variety; CMW Insurance has held 21 annual golf tournaments in support of local charities.
More than $23,000 in partial proceeds from the recent Apna Truck Show, held at the Tradex in Abbotsford, was donated to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada.
The OpenRoad Auto Group recently donated $45,000 to Make-A-Wish Foundation of British Columbia and Yukon. Funds were raised through the group’s annual golf tournament. •
