Paul Noble, sales engineer, project manager and estimator, has joined Davidson Bros. Mechanical Contractors to enhance its design-build and design-assist capabilities in the commercial, industrial and institutional markets. In addition to this new role, he will continue teaching in the University of British Columbia’s master of engineering leadership in high performance buildings program. Noble was previously with Broadway Refrigeration and Trane BC.

Kate Furber has been appointed PwC Canada’s new B.C. region private company services leader. Furber has more than 24 years of experience providing audit, risk assurance and advisory services to public and private companies in the retail, technology, life sciences and consumer products industries. She previously held the positions of B.C. industries leader and western retail and consumer leader at the firm. Robert Coard will take over as the B.C. industries leader as well as become the technology and consumer markets leader for Western Canada. Coard has more than 14 years of experience and specializes in assurance and business advisory services, primarily growing companies in the consumer products, technology, life sciences and industrial products industries.
Hospitality/Tourism/Convention
Ross Wise has joined Black Hills Estate Winery as its new head winemaker starting January 7, 2019. Wise had more than 16 years of winemaking, viticulture and consulting experience in New Zealand and Ontario before moving to Oliver. Prior to joining Black Hills, Wise was head winemaker and general manager at Phantom Creek Estate.
Non-profit
Doug Cochrane, chair and provincial patient safety and quality officer, BC Patient Safety and Quality Council; and Michael Marchbank, former president and CEO, Fraser Health, have joined the board of directors of the BC Academic Health Science Network (BC AHSN). The BC AHSN organization includes the BC SUPPORT Unit, Clinical Trials BC and Research Ethics BC.
Sharon Lee, Gavin Randhawa and Jasmine Sekhon have joined the public relations team at the Salvation Army. Lee is the new divisional manager, communications and marking; Randhawa is now communications and marketing co-ordinator; and Sekhon is divisional volunteer co-ordinator.
Doramy Ehling has been appointed CEO at the Rick Hansen Foundation. Ehling has been the chief operating officer of the foundation for 11 years. Prior to joining the foundation, Ehling worked for more than 27 years in high-performance sport for several national and multi-sport organizations and for the Government of Canada (Sport Canada) where she worked with the federal secretariat on the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Real estate
Devencore, a privately owned commercial real estate company with offices across Canada, has appointed Terrence Philps as vice-president, associate broker, in the firm’s Victoria office. Prior to this appointment, Philps was vice-president, associate broker, in Devencore’s downtown Calgary office, where his focus was on corporate advisory services. Philps has more than 22 years of commercial real estate experience and 30 years of management and sales experience.

Dean Winsor has been appointed senior vice-president and chief human resources officer at Teck Resources Ltd. Winsor has nearly 30 years of operations and corporate experience in the mining industry in the areas of human resources and procurement. He joined Teck in 1999 and most recently held the position of vice-president, human resources.
Technology
David Kozicz has joined AFL as senior vice-president, business transformation. Kozicz has more than 15 years of experience in the telecom industry, having previously worked in construction, banking and consulting. AFL engineers, provisions, builds and provides products and services for customers’ broadband networks.
HATS OFF
Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.
Vancouver International Airport (YVR) recently received the Accessibility Certified Gold rating under the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification program. YVR is the first airport to receive the rating and is the highest-rated building in the program, with 93 out of 100 points.
In celebration of Capilano University’s 50th anniversary, more than 50 members of the university’s community participated in the Scotiabank Charity Challenge in June. Half of the more than $20,000 raised will fund student bursaries at the university and half will go to the North Shore Neighbourhood House, which supports young people in education, housing, transportation, food security and a broad range of family support services.
RBC Future Launch donated $40,000 to Science World’s Future Science Leaders program, a university-level STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) enrichment program for kids in grades 11 and 12 based in Vancouver and Surrey. •
