Vince Gasparro has joined Vancity Community Investment Bank as managing director, corporate development. He will primarily focus on developing the bank’s corporate strategies that drive new revenue through partnerships with business and government. Gasparro was formerly principal secretary at the office of Toronto Mayor John Tory.
Legal
Derrick Fung and Dorothy Celis have joined Smythe LLP as a controller and manager in the company’s Vancouver office. Fung’s services have primarily focused on corporate accounting. Celis will primarily focus on providing audit, assurance and advisory services to public and private companies, as well as not-for-profit organizations.
Jon Harding has joined Harper Grey LLP as chief operating officer effective January 13, 2020. He will serve as a member of the firm’s executive leadership and oversee the business and financial operations of the firm.
Athar Malik and Avery Saunders have been appointed partners at Clark Wilson LLP. Malik’s practices have been primarily focused on intellectual property, information technology and higher learning. Saunders has mainly focused on merger and acquisition transactions.
Gordon Behan, Karen Ngan and Katie Mak have been appointed partners in the firm’s estates and trusts group, commercial real estate, private company mergers and acquisitions and general business law groups and banking, insolvency and restructuring, business litigation, and fraud and asset recovery groups, respectively.
Angela Spanjer has been appointed managing partner of Richards Buell Sutton LLP (RBS) Surrey following the merger of RBS and Manthorpe Law Offices (MLO) on January 1. Her practices focus on personal estate planning, estate administration, planning for incapacity, trusts, corporate reorganizations and business succession planning.
Rosalyn Manthorpe and Eryn Jackson have been appointed associate counsel and associate, respectively, at RBS. Manthorpe is the founder of MLO.
Gaurav Parmar has joined Lindsay Kenney LLP as a business and real estate lawyer. He was formerly partner at HSJ Lawyers LLP. Parmar has moved his solicitor’s practice to Langley.

Michael Elvidge has been appointed general manager of Avcorp Industries Inc.’s Delta facility in B.C. Elvidge previously led the company’s engineering and quality team. Cedric Savineau has resigned from the general manager position effective January 15, 2020.
Non-Profit
Elain Evans and Brynn Myers have joined the Vancouver Art Gallery as chief development officer and director of development, respectively.
Evans will focus on the gallery’s capital campaign, generating private funding needed to construct a new building. She was formerly executive director of advancement with Collingwood School. Myers will lead the fundraising activities for the gallery’s annual operations. She was formerly associate director, development, of the Canadian Centre for Architecture (CCA).
Technology
Mitchell Demeter has been appointed an independent director of Neptune Dash Technologies Corp., a wholly owned subsidiary of BIGG Digital Assets Inc. based in Vancouver. Demeter is currently the president of Netcoins Inc. He is co-founder of Cointrader.
Michael Cappello has been appointed senior vice-president, prototype deployment, at General Fusion. He will lead the company’s fusion demonstration plant deployment, managing all aspects of the prototype site selection and construction. Cappello was formerly senior vice-president and chief engineer at TAE Technologies, a U.S.-based fusion energy company.

Manthorpe Law Offices (MLO) has merged with Richards Buell Sutton LLP (RBS). The MLO team is now part of RBS’s new office in the Guildford area of Surrey, B.C.

The River Foundation donated $20,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. These funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with supportive mentors through its one-to-one mentoring programs.
The Illahie Foundation donated $4,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland’s Study Buddy program to support the organization match at-risk girls with a supportive mentor through its one-to-one Study Buddy mentoring program.
Tsunami Solutions donated $5,000 to Ronald McDonald House BC and Yukon to produce and send holiday cards.
Teck Resources Ltd. was recognized as one of the 2020 Global 100 most sustainable corporations by Corporate Knights. Teck Resources has also been named to the 2020 Bloomberg Gender-Equality Index.
Joe Segal received the 2020 Rix Award for Engaged Community Citizenship from the Greater Vancouver Board of Trade (GVBOT). Canadian National Railway received the 2020 Rix Award for Engaged Corporate Citizenship from the GVBOT.
