Mike Bannerman has been named a partner at Presley & Partners, an accounting and business advisory firm on Vancouver Island. Bannerman has been with the firm since January 2012.
Toronto-based Camilla Sutton has been appointed president and CEO of Women in Capital Markets (WCM), a national network of professional women in the Canadian capital markets and the voice of advocacy for women in the industry. Sutton spent more than two decades in capital markets, most recently as Scotiabank’s global head of foreign exchange. WCM has a chapter in Victoria, co-chaired by Carmen Firmani and Tamara Bonn, and the Vancouver chapter is co-chaired by Catherine Heath and Kirsten Kennedy.

Simmone Lyons has been appointed spa director at Scandinave Spa Whistler. Lyons previously held the role of marketing manager at the spa, starting in 2014.

Andrew Woodhouse has joined Fasken’s Vancouver office as an associate in the firm’s labour, employment and human rights practice group.
Keri L. Bennett and Danny Bernstein have joined the partnership of Roper Greyell LLP. Bennett, a labour, employment and privacy lawyer who assists both public bodies and private organizations, is also leader of the firm’s privacy initiatives. Bernstein first practised law in Western Australia and then Ontario before moving to B.C. and joining Roper Greyell in 2015; he acts in all areas of labour, employment and human rights law in both provincial and federal jurisdictions, and regularly helps clients respond to wrongful and constructive dismissal claims, human rights complaints and statutory entitlement claims.
Timothy Louman-Gardiner and Matthew W. Pierce, both with general litigation practices, have joined the partnership at Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP. Louman-Gardiner’s practice includes corporate and commercial disputes, banking litigation, creditors’ remedies, estate and estate administration matters, and he also maintains an insolvency practice that includes acting for creditors, debtors and other stakeholders in restructuring and insolvency proceedings. Pierce has a broad litigation practice covering corporate-commercial disputes, shareholder disputes, securities law and other regulatory matters, construction disputes, employment disputes and insolvency matters. Pierce has appeared regularly in the courts of British Columbia, Alberta and Nova Scotia.

Bev Holmes has been appointed president and CEO of the Michael Smith Foundation for Health Research (MSFHR), British Columbia’s health research funding agency. Holmes has an eight-year history of leadership within MSFHR and a wealth of experience in health research, practice and policy.

Dr. Rakesh Arya, a dentist and entrepreneur, has been appointed to Pacgen Life Science Corp.’s board of directors. Arya has more than 25 years of business management experience and currently serves as the principal of a high-tech dentistry clinic based in Canada.
Christine Battist has joined Avison Young as a principal and CFO; she will be based in the firm’s Chicago office. Battist has more than 25 years of financial management experience, most recently as CFO of Silver Bay Realty Trust, and, previously, Two Harbors Investment Corp.

Mike Mutchler has been appointed president, CEO and director of Amarillo Gold Corp. Rolly Uloth, who has held the position as interim CEO, will continue as executive chairman. Mutchler is currently a partner and advisory board member at Whittle Consulting Pty. Ltd. and has more than 30 years of experience as a mining engineer in both open-pit and underground mining operations.
Christopher Wolfenberg, a partner with Fasken Martineau LLP, has been appointed to MGX Minerals Inc.’s board of directors. Prior to his current position he was a partner with Norton Rose Fullbright and provided advice to clients active in the mining, technology and energy sectors. MGX Minerals has also formed a compensation and valuation committee composed of directors Wolfenberg, Lyndon Patrick and the firm’s CFO, Michael Reimann.
A.J. (Pine) Pienaar, former CEO of JPMorgan Asset Management Canada (Inc.), has been appointed as a non-executive member of the board of directors at Mineworx Technologies Ltd. He is replacing Brent Fleischhacker, who is standing down to facilitate Pienaar’s appointment, having been a director since June 2015.
Eric H. Edwards has been appointed president, chief executive officer and a director of TriMetals Mining Inc. The company also announces the retirement of founder Ralph Fitch as a director and officer after a 53-year career as a geologist. Fitch has led the company and its predecessors since inception in 1994. Edwards has worked for major and junior public companies with projects in Canada, the U.S., Ecuador, Myanmar, Kazakhstan, Argentina and Peru. Edwards most recently served as president and CEO of Lupaka Gold Corp., where he directed the company through its initial public offering and through the acquisition of Andean American Gold Corp.
Brian Corrall, controller for the TFN Economic Development Corp. of the Tsawwassen First Nation, has been appointed to the board of Mineral Mountain Resources Ltd. as an independent director. To accommodate the appointment, Marshall Bertram, a founder of Mineral Mountain, will resign from the board of directors on March 1. Corrall has more than 30 years of experience in the forest industry in financial and strategic management positions with MacMillan Bloedel and Weyerhaeuser.
Russell Ball and Marie-Hélène Bérard have been appointed independent directors at Columbus Gold Corp., replacing Donald Gustafson, who died in 2017, and Gil Atzmon, a founding director of the company, who has retired. Most recently, Ball was CFO of Goldcorp Inc. and, prior to that, CFO at Newmont Mining Corp. Bérard is a former high-ranking French civil servant; she was special adviser to Jacques Chirac, former president of France, and is currently treasurer at the Chirac Foundation.

Juan Ramos Taboada has been appointed as an adviser to the board of directors at Upco International Inc., a cloud-based mobile service company. Ramos Taboada, based in Argentina, has extensive experience; he was chief operating officer of Business Telecommunications Systems, a strategic adviser for Skype for Latin America, and vice-president, Latin America, of iBasis.

The Founder’s Cup Charity Classic donated $10,000 to the BC Sports Hall of Fame and $10,000 to the BC Sports Hall of Fame Foundation. Ron Jones, founder and Hall of Famer, BC Sports Hall of Fame, donated $50,000 to the BC Sports Hall of Fame Foundation.
Patrons at the Arms Pub in Port Coquitlam donated $10,000 to Crossroads Hospice Society. The funds were raised during the pub’s fourth annual football pool.
Vancouver Fire and Rescue Services donated $2,500 to the Down Syndrome Research Foundation. The funds were raised at the fire department’s golf tournament in 2017.
Watson Goepel LLP donated $15,800 to Charlford House Society for Women, an organization providing a safe place for women recovering from substance addiction. Proceeds were partially raised through employee fundraising events. The donation will make a difference in the lives of 60 women and their families this year.
KPMG donated $6,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. These funds will help the organization match at-risk girls, transgender and non-binary youth with supportive mentors through its mentoring program.
Stewart Butterfield, co-founder and CEO of Slack and University of Victoria alumnus, has been named the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business 2018 Distinguished Entrepreneur of the Year at the University of Victoria.
Eat! Vancouver donated $25,000 from its 2017 festival to Project CHEF (Cook Healthy Edible Food), an organization that educates elementary school children about eating and cooking healthy.
TB Vets Charitable Foundation donated $40,000 to BC Women’s Hospital Foundation. The donation will provide the hospital’s new neonatal intensive care unit with life-saving respiratory video laryngoscope equipment designed for fragile newborns. •
