Tyson Matheson has joined Rocky Mountaineer as vice-president, global human resources. Matheson began his human resources career at WestJet, where he advanced to vice-president, people relations and culture, managing a team of 100 people. He then transitioned to the operations side of the business as vice-president, inflight services, where he led a team of 3,500 employees, including flight attendants and those working in safety, guest services, provisioning, on-board product and technical learning and development. In 2017, Matheson relocated to Toronto to join Walmart Canada as vice-president, associate relations.
Legal
Katie Comley and Jada Tellier have joined Miller Thomson LLP. Previously legal counsel for the provincial government, Comley joins the firm’s labour relations and employment group with experience providing advice to employers throughout B.C. across many diverse sectors. Tellier joins the firm’s commercial real estate group from Lawson Lundell LLP and has a keen interest in Indigenous land and economic development. Tellier has experience reviewing First Nation land codes and drafting impact and benefit agreements between First Nations and proponents in relation to proposed development projects.
Aneez N. Devji and Jonathan M.S. Woolley have joined the partnership at Richards Buell Sutton LLP. Devji is a member of the firm’s real estate practice group specializing in commercial leasing, commercial lending and real estate transactions. Woolley is a member of the firm’s intellectual property and advanced education and research practice groups, and maintains a broad litigation practice focused on intellectual property and commercial litigation. Both lawyers were formerly associates at the firm.
Brendan Piovesan has joined the partnership at Farris LLP. Piovesan is a solicitor in the firm’s corporate and commercial and real estate groups, acting principally for private real estate developers and advising clients on all aspects of real estate development.

Stephany (Rosy) Fier and Nicholas Campbell have been promoted to vice-president, exploration and technical services, and executive vice-president, business development, respectively, at SilverCrest Metals Inc. Michael Rapsch has resigned from his position as vice-president, corporate communication. Fier, a mining and geological engineer with more than 10 years of experience in exploration, construction and mine production in Mexico, Canada, the U.S. and Central America, has been the exploration manager for SilverCrest Metals since its inception in 2015. Previously, Fier held several roles with SilverCrest Mines at the Santa Elena mine in Sonora, Mexico, from 2009 to 2015. Campbell has been vice-president, business development, for the company since October 2016.
Transportation
Jordi Porcel has been appointed chief sales, marketing and customer experience officer at Canada Jetlines Ltd. Porcel worked with Javier Suarez, CEO, Canada Jetlines, at Vueling from 2012 to 2014, where Porcel was chief sales officer. More recently, Porcel was head of Europe at Air Arabia, a fast-growing and profitable low-cost carrier. Prior to his role at Air Arabia, Porcel was general manager, Spain, at Etihad Airways from 2014 to 2016. He was responsible for initiating Etihad’s operations in Spain and accountable for managing all commercial activities in the new region. From 1988 to 2011, Porcel worked at British Airways, where he held progressively senior positions, ultimately holding the position of regional commercial manager for Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

New in town
Pulse Fit Rx, a new fitness centre dedicated to helping prevent and manage heart disease and cardiovascular issues, has opened in Vancouver at West Broadway and Willow. The 3,000-square-foot facility, a subsidiary of Pulse Cardiac Clinic, gives access to high-end equipment and facilities, customized counsel from exercise physiologists, cardiologists, dietitians and psychologists and cardiologist-supervised fitness programs. Pulse Fit Rx works on a monthly membership and is government-supported with the Medical Services Plan covering aspects of the program, reducing costs by up to 60%. Plans begin at $199 per month.
HATS OFF
Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.
The Government of British Columbia and BC Recreation and Parks Association donated a $1,500 grant to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland’s Go Girls! program. Envision Financial donated $6,452 to the same program. Cadillac Fairview and the 1988 Foundation donated $5,000 each to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. These funds will help the organization match vulnerable girls with supportive mentors through its one-to-one mentoring program. The Seedlings Foundation also donated $15,500, specifically to the Big Sisters Mentoring and Study Buddy programs.
Avison Young brokers Russ Bougie, Kevin Kassautzki and Cally Zering donated $7,500 to St. Paul’s Foundation – a portion of the brokers’ collective annual fees. The donation is in direct support of Foundry – a provincial network of youth centres that break down barriers and stigmas that young people face in finding a place to access mental health, substance use, primary care and social services.
Goodridge&Williams Distilling recently announced the recipients of its #spiritofgoodwill effort as part of the holiday season. The local distillery invited the general public to nominate local charitable organizations to receive one of five $1,000 donations. Of those nominated, the distillery chose to donate to the Children’s Wish Foundation, Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation, the Lipstick Project – providing free, professional spa services to men, women and children in Metro Vancouver who are facing significant health challenges – Mosaic and Whistler Adaptive Sports Program. •
