Kevin Savage assumed leadership of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of BC as chair of the board of directors for the 2018-19 term. Joining Savage on the executive committee are Gurjit Sangha (vice-chair/treasurer), Selena Wilson (secretary) and Jeannine Martin (immediate past chair). Keith Sashaw, president and CEO, serves on the executive committee in an ex officio capacity. Returning directors include Tim Stanley, Carol Campbell, Richard Bush, Fred Cummings, Iain Ward and Brian Yates. Newly elected to the board are Mike Chin, Derek Drummond, Chris Mealing and Rodger Welch. Marc Winer and David Ellis were selected by the board to serve as ex officio directors for the 2018-19 term.

Vancouver consulting firm Core6 Environmental has announced Tom Hudson as its latest shareholder as of June 1. Hudson is a certified project management professional and has been with the firm since 2014. Core6 Environmental provides environmental consulting services to the public and private sectors and First Nations.
Health/Medical
David Hastings has been appointed chief financial officer at Arbutus Biopharma Corp., assuming the role from Koert VandenEnden, Arbutus’ interim chief financial officer. Most recently, Hastings served as CFO and senior vice-president of Unilife Corp., a medical device company, from 2015 to 2017 and as its chief accounting officer and treasurer from 2016 to 2017.
Hospitality/Tourism/Convention
Nikki Callaway has joined Laughing Stock Vineyards as winemaker. David Enns continues as executive winemaker. Callaway has been making wine in the Okanagan Valley for nearly 10 years and most recently joins the team from Quails’ Gate Estate Winery. In 2011, her Okanagan Pinot Noir made while at Martin’s Lane Winery won World’s Best Pinot Noir in the under £15 category at the Decanter World Wine Awards.

Christine Willow, managing partner, Chemistry Consulting Group, was recently recognized as business person of the year at the 2018 Greater Victoria Business Awards. Established in 2006, the company provides HR consulting, executive search and recruitment, immigration, event management and business consulting services through its offices in Vancouver, Victoria and Nanaimo.

Matt Gordon has been appointed senior associate at Edelman Vancouver. Gordon, a former assistant deputy minister with the Government of British Columbia who has served under three different administrations and two political parties, has more than two decades of experience providing executive counsel within and outside government.
Non-profit
Brian Riddell will retire on March 31, 2019, after 10 years of service as president and CEO of the Pacific Salmon Foundation (PSF). Riddell and the board have appointed Michael Meneer in the new role of executive vice-president; Meneer has been vice-president for development, communications and marketing at the PSF since 2009. The appointment of a new president and CEO is expected to be announced in January 2019.
Eleanor O’Connor has been elected to the board of directors at Pacific Parklands Foundation, a non-profit focused on preserving and enhancing the Metro Vancouver regional parks system today and for future generations. O’Connor joins David Pohl, president; Kevin O’Callaghan, vice-president; Anastase Maragos, secretary; Sarah Marsh, treasurer; John Scott, past president; and directors Lindsey Fryett-Jerke, Richard Hankin, Steve Hnatiuk and Mark van der Zalm, plus Metro Vancouver regional parks representatives Mike Redpath, Heather Deal and Craig Hodge.
Jazmin Rodriguez has been appointed annual giving officer in the fund development department at the Salvation Army, B.C. division. Rodriguez was previously with the YWCA.

Mel Herdrick has been appointed vice-president, exploration, at Sonoro Metals Corp; he has provided technical consulting services to the company since 2012. Herdrick is a geologist with 45 years of exploration and mine-related experience in the U.S. and Mexico. His experience includes 10 years as chief geologist for Phelps Dodge in Mexico and seven years as vice-president, exploration, for Pediment Gold in Mexico until its takeover by Argonaut Gold in 2011.
Eddy Yu has been appointed chief financial officer of Fireweed Zinc Ltd., succeeding Hang-Ying (Jessie) Lin, who has resigned. Yu is a chartered professional accountant with more than 20 years of experience in business and financial management.
Evelyn Abbott has been appointed CFO at UEX Corp., succeeding Wylie Hui. Abbott has more than 20 years of finance and accounting experience with senior financial roles in the biotech, manufacturing and logistics industries, including working as the CFO and corporate secretary of Geologix Explorations Inc. for the past 11 years.

Daniel Frydenlund has resigned as a director of Uniserve Communications Corp. The company has also terminated the contract services provided by Hashim Mitha; Mitha was appointed acting president and COO of the company in September 2016 .

Ken Johnson, founder and general manager of Ken Johnson Trucking Ltd. (Langley), has been named chair of the BC Trucking Association board of directors for 2018-19. Joining him on the executive committee are first vice-chair Phil Bandstra, Bandstra Transportation Systems Ltd. (Smithers); second vice-chair Doug Sutherland, Sutco Transportation Specialists (West Kelowna); treasurer Dan Watson, Canada Cartage Fleet Outsourcing (Richmond); past chair Trevor Sawkins, ColdStar Solutions Inc. The Diamond Foundation donated $15,000 to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland’s Go Girls! program for 2018. This is part of a three-year pledge of $15,000 per year to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland.
Stemcell Technologies donated $75,000 to Science World BC. The funds are in support of Future Science Leaders, a program designed to inspire and challenge students to excel in science and technology.
Attendees of the Sparkle Gala, presented by Beedie Development, donated $475,000 for BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre Foundation. The funds will support the expansion of BC Women’s Hospital maternity suites so that more women will be able to actively choose their preferred care and type of birthing experience.
BMS Canada Risk Services Ltd.’s construction and development insurance team recently planned and hosted a dinner dance fundraiser. More than $14,000 was donated to Kids Help Phone. •
