Wesley Dennis has been appointed executive chef at Steel Toad Brewing Co. Dennis has worked at Lumière and Cactus Club, and most recently served as regional chef at Milestones, overseeing its West Coast operation and menu development.
Tia Kambas, a longtime Chambar employee, has been promoted to the newly created position of director of operations for the award-winning restaurant. Kambas has more than a decade of experience in both front and back of house. She began her career as a dishwasher at Chambar in 2004, working her way up through the kitchen ranks to the position of executive chef in 2010. Kambas had also had experience at other B.C. restaurants, including brief stints at Sooke Harbour House and Market at the Shangri-La Hotel.

Rolly Uloth has been appointed executive chairman of the board of Amarillo Gold Corp. Uloth is a mining executive with almost 20 years of experience in various positions at Wesdome Gold Mines and its predecessor companies.
Darren Klinck has been appointed president and CEO of Bluestone Resources Inc., effective August 1. Klinck most recently served as executive vice-president and head of corporate development for OceanaGold Corp. The company, which owns a 100% interest in the Cerro Blanco Gold and Mita Geothermal projects in Guatemala, has also appointed Zara Boldt, William Lamb and Paul McRae to its advisory committee. Boldt is an accountant and most recently served as CFO of Kaminak Gold Corp. Lamb was most recently responsible for the development of Lundin Mining Corp.’s Eagle mine in northern Michigan. McRae is currently senior vice-president, projects, for Lundin Mining.

Brent Hale has been appointed chief administrative officer at Seaspan ULC. Hale joined Seaspan in June 2015 as vice-president, human resources (HR), and previously served as director, strategic HR and governance, at the Insurance Corp. of British Columbia.
Hats Off
Odlum Brown, RBC Foundation, Coast Capital Savings, HSBC, Pan American Silver, SAP, Aritzia and Unbounce donated a total of $95,000 to Minerva Foundation for BC Women. The funds will be used to support the foundation’s Learning to Lead weekend, where female Grade 11 students attend workshops that build leadership and confidence. The funds donated will allow 50 girls from around the province to attend the leadership weekend.
Economical Insurance, in association with B.C. broker partner, Wilson M. Beck Insurance Group, donated $5,000 to Quest Outreach Society. The donation directly supports the recovery and redistribution of quality surplus food.
Shafin Diamond Tejani and Victory Square Technologies have donated up to $500,000 to Variety – the Children’s Charity. They will match every dollar raised through the Variety Kids Can campaign, up to $500,000. Tejani also sponsored the charity’s fundraising initiative held in April, called One Night in Monte Carlo.
BMO donated $25,000 to Hawthorne Seniors Care Community. The donation was made in support of the Growing Our Care Capital Campaign and will support the renovation of Hawthorne Lodge, a complex-care facility and residence in Port Coquitlam designed to address the needs of seniors who require total assistance with the activities of daily living.
Kiwanis Vancouver donated $3,000 to the Down Syndrome Research Foundation. The funds will go towards the foundation’s summer Chatter Camp (for students with Down syndrome, aged 13 to 22) and Music in Motion programs (for students seven and older). Music in Motion is a workshop led by professional musicians who lead participants through a gallery of musical instruments (keyboard, drums, guitar, shakers, maracas, etc.). The program consists of conversation about music, hands-on experience with the instruments and a lively singalong.
RBC Foundation donated $25,000 to Bard on the Beach Theatre Society, in support of Bard’s apprentice directors program. •
