Development/Construction

Adrian Watson, Shauna Pringle and Nathan Stolarz have joined the Vancouver office of  Perkins+Will. Watson has been appointed principal and design director, has more than 25 years of experience and has provided design leadership to a number of global firms; his portfolio spans many practice areas, from civic and commercial to transportation and master planning. Pringle joins the firm as project manager. As a senior interior designer, Pringle has more than 19 years of experience in award-winning corporate and hospitality design. Stolarz joins the firm as senior architect, and has more than 11 years of experience delivering a wide range of mixed-use, planning, multi-family residential, commercial and retail projects.

Finance

Andrew Gee has been appointed vice-president of finance at Associa British Columbia. Gee has worked at the homeowner association and property management services company for more than 11 years, beginning his career with the company as a strata accountant in the Surrey branch and becoming senior accountant at the Abbotsford branch in 2007. Gee has also served as accounting manager, assistant controller and controller during his time with Associa. His most recent contribution was serving on the leadership team for the branch’s 2017 C3 integration – C3 is a comprehensive, integrated management database program.

Legal

Jeffrey Read and Chat Ortved have joined Lawson Lundell LLP’s Vancouver office as partners in its corporate finance and securities group. Between 2000 and 2015, Read was an adjunct professor (securities regulation) at the University of British Columbia faculty of law. Prior to joining Lawson Lundell, Ortved was an equity partner of a Canadian law firm based in Toronto.

Linda Lucas has been appointed chief executive officer at Roper Greyell LLP. Lucas is a chartered professional accountant with 20 years of experience in finance and operations, and has worked in many different industries across Canada, the U.K. and the Caribbean.

Non-profit

Leanne Poon has been appointed executive director at Douglas College Foundation. Poon has had a 30-year career in alumni and development at University of British Columbia; her most recent position there was associate director, student awards development. 

Rowena Veylan has been appointed executive director at the BC Hospitality Foundation, replacing Alan Sacks, who announced his retirement at the end of 2016. Veylan was most recently senior director, development and communications, for the MS Society of Canada, B.C. and Yukon division, a post she held since 2014. Prior to joining the MS Society, she was the principal of RA Consulting and worked with organizations to build fundraising capacity and increase revenue. She has also held roles at the Alzheimer Society of BC, Oxfam Canada and the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation.

Resources

Scott Hicks has been appointed vice-president, corporate development and communications, at Lumina Gold Corp. Prior to this appointment, Hicks was a member of the investment banking team with RBC Capital Markets, specializing in metals and mining. He has also worked at BMO Capital Markets in a similar capacity.

Michael Kosowan has been appointed president, CEO and director at Stratton Resources Inc. Kosowan, with more than 20 years of experience in the junior mining sector, is a former investment adviser of Sprott Private Wealth (Canada), Sprott Global Resources Inc. (USA) and is currently a director of TSX-listed Auryn Resources Inc. Stratton Resources will be undergoing a name change, subject to approval, prior to March 31. The new name is Torq Resources Inc. and it will trade on the TSX Venture Exchange under the ticker symbol TORQ.

Technology

Parm Sandhu has been appointed vice-president, enterprise sales, at Urban Communications Inc. Sandhu has managed large revenue portfolios for large private- and public-sector companies, including the enterprise solutions and wireless divisions of Telus, where he was employed in a senior sales capacity for more than 10 years. 

Hats Off

United Way Lower Mainland donated a $17,730 community grant to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. These funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with a supportive mentor through its one-to-one Big Sisters mentoring program.

The Mischa Weisz Foundation donated $10,000 to YWCA Crabtree Corner Community Resource Centre, in support of the centre’s mandate to provide the children of single-mother-led families with the services and supports needed to help provide them with the best start.

World Duty Free Vancouver donated more than $30,000 to the Richmond Hospital Foundation in support of Richmond Hospital’s emergency department, intensive care unit and Richmond Lions Manor to help purchase bronchoscopes, portable oximeter monitors and pressure relief cushions.

Burnaby Hospital lottery booth volunteers donated $12,000 to the Burnaby Hospital Foundation. The funds are designated for the purchase of urgently needed medical equipment.

The staff and members of Jericho Tennis Club donated proceeds from two separate fundraising events to Canuck Place Children’s Hospice. Staff donated more than $500, while the club’s members, through an art auction, donated $3,490.

Herbaland, one of Canada’s largest manufacturers of nutritional gummies, has become an official corporate sponsor of Easter Seals BC/Yukon and pledged 1% of sales of its gummy products to the charitable organization. Easter Seals BCY provides services and programs through Easter Seals House in Vancouver and Easter Seals camps in Squamish and in the Victoria and Vernon areas. In 2016, more than 30,000 bed nights and camper days were offered to families with children with disabilities. •
