Liz Tutt has been elected as chair of the board of directors at the Real Estate Errors and Omissions Insurance Corp. Tutt is a real estate representative licensed with Re/Max Nyda Realty in Chilliwack and has been active in the real estate industry for more than 30 years. She has served as president of both the Chilliwack and District Real Estate Board and the BC Real Estate Association, as a director of the Canadian Real Estate Association and as a member of the Real Estate Council of BC.

Dentons’ Canada region board recently approved admission of 15 associates as partners. In the firm’s Vancouver office, Tevia Jeffries and Shoshanah Webber were admitted as partners. Jeffries is a partner in the insolvency group and is also licensed to practice in the state of New York. Prior to joining Dentons, Jeffries practised at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP in New York in the area of corporate restructuring and bankruptcy law. Webber practices in the firm’s banking and finance, insolvency and corporate/commercial groups; her preferred areas of practice include corporate and commercial lending, including syndicated transactions, asset-based lending, cross-border transactions, real estate financing, acquisition and project financing, debtor-in-possession financing and forbearance arrangements.

Conrad Nest has joined Boughton Law, the Vancouver-based business law firm. Nest has more than 14 years of experience advising local and international clients. His securities practice includes a variety of matters related to cross-border mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt offering, venture capital financings, initial public offerings, reverse mergers and secondary public offerings.

Susan Byrom has been appointed executive director of the First West Foundation. Byrom also serves as senior manager of community investment for Langley-based First West Credit Union, which operates through the Envision Financial, Valley First, Island Savings and Enderby & District Financial regional brands. Byrom is also president of the Langley School District Foundation and president of the Surrey Food Bank Society. Since 2007, she has served on the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation credit union committee, holding positions of chair and vice-chair.

Public

Michael Young has been appointed a director at ICC International Cannabis Corp. and will also serve on ICC’s audit committee; he is replacing Joel Strickland. Young most recently held the position of managing director and co-head of trading for GMP Securities in Toronto.

Resources

Natalie King and David Green have been appointed project manager and mine manager, respectively, for IDM Mining Ltd.’s Red Mountain Gold Project near Stewart, B.C. King has more than 10 years of geological experience ranging from grass-roots exploration to advanced project management, in a variety of geological environments throughout North America. Green, based in Stewart, B.C., has several decades of underground experience throughout the North and around the world, primarily for Procon Mining. Recent experience includes several years at Pretium’s nearby Brucejack Project, located northwest of Red Mountain.

Jeff Hanman has been appointed vice-president, corporate affairs, at Teck Resources Ltd. Hanman joined Teck in April 2011 and most recently held the position of head, corporate affairs. Before joining Teck, he held the position of deputy chief of staff, policy coordination and issues management, with the office of the premier of British Columbia. In addition to his work with Teck, Hanman serves as treasurer and vice-chair of the Mining Association of British Columbia and as co-chair of Mining for Miracles, the B.C. mining industry’s charity of choice in support of BC Children’s Hospital.

Sales/Marketing

Peter Petralia has been hired as a partner at Modern Craft, a Vancouver-based boutique marketing consultancy, where he will lead a growing people and process practice. Petralia was most recently managing director of digital strategy at Sullivan NYC, an independent digital marketing and brand engagement firm. Petralia has also applied senior account, project management and strategy development acumen at digital shops Razorfish, Blast Radius and Huge.

Hats Off

Scotiabank donated $2 million to University of British Columbia (UBC) to support the Scotiabank Cybersecurity and Risk Analytics Initiative over the next five years. The funds will support research and educational initiatives, including internships, speaker series, engagement activities like hackathons and other collaborative events to advance the understanding of the impacts of cyberattacks and refine risk management tools. The donation will also support the Creative Destruction Lab West at the UBC Sauder School of Business, an extension of the Scotiabank-supported Creative Destruction Lab at the University of Toronto’s Rotman School of Management.

Coast Capital Savings donated a $10,000 grant to Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland. These funds will help the organization match at-risk girls with supportive mentors through their Go Girls! Healthy Bodies, Healthy Minds group mentoring program.

G&F Financial Group donated $10,000 to the financial literacy and peer mentorship program for residents at YWCA Crabtree Corner Housing. This program provides the opportunity to learn invaluable life skills in order to address poverty among vulnerable single mothers and their children. •
