She has 16 years of experience investing in emerging growth companies, mostly in the areas of information technology and med-tech. This experience includes operational roles, M&A facilitation and board memberships. She has built an extensive technology network across North America, notably in Silicon Valley. She is an active member and a past president of CFA Society, Vancouver.

Edie Thome has been appointed as president and CEO of the Association for Mineral Exploration, effective June 19, 2017. Most recently, Thome was director, environment, permitting, and compliance, aboriginal relations and public affairs, at BC Hydro, responsible for permitting and compliance, aboriginal relations and public affairs for the Site C Clean Energy Project. Before that, she worked in risk management, environment, operations and customer service for BC Hydro. Her management experience also includes 4 1/2 years as vice-president, customer service, airport operations and corporate communications, for Harmony Airways.
Gabriel Rubacha has been promoted to Lithium Americas Corp.’s president, South American operations. For the past year, Rubacha has been a director of Lithium Americas and a director of the joint venture company Minera Exar SA.
Augusto Baertl has joined the board of directors at Panoro Minerals Ltd. Baertl is an experienced mining executive with over 50 years of experience in the Peruvian and international mining sectors. Baertl’s career in the mining sector began with the San Cristobal mining unit of Cerro de Pasco Corp., followed by a long tenure at Compania Minera Milpo, where he rose to the role of president and CEO. He was also president and CEO of Compania Minera Antamina, where he led the $2.25 billion development of one of the world’s largest copper-zinc mines from exploration to startup.
Adrian Fleming has joined the board of directors at StrikePoint Gold Inc. Fleming is a professional geologist with over 40 years of technical and executive experience with exploration and development- stage mining companies. He was the co-founder and president of Underworld Resources from 2006 to 2010. Fleming led the team that discovered the maiden resource of the million-ounce White Gold deposit, located in the White Gold district, Yukon. The project was subsequently acquired by Kinross in 2010 for $138 million.

Randy Binning has joined Indochino as vice-president of retail operations and Dean Handspiker has been promoted to vice-president of design, product and showroom development at the firm. Binning most recently served 15 years at Guess Inc. as director of West Coast North America and later as director of stores, Canada.

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation’s recent cardiac care campaign raised $3.3 million for a full upgrade of the equipment in the hospital’s cardiac catheterization lab. Annually, the interventional cardiology team performs 2,300 angioplasties and 3,100 diagnostic catheterizations – the most in the province.
Wheel 2 Heal donated $147,250 to Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation, raised through an annual charity bike ride. Over 200 riders hopped on their bikes and rode anywhere from 15 to 100 kilometres to raise funds for the Eagle Ridge Hospital Foundation.
The Rotary Club of Coquitlam Sunrise gave $1,500 to Children of the Street Society to support local prevention workshops that give young people the information and tools they need to learn how to keep safe from all forms of sexual exploitation. The gift will support workshops given to Coquitlam elementary, middle and secondary students.
Royal Bank of Canada donated $20,000 to Chor Leoni, in support of the ensemble’s MYVoice youth choir initiative. The 10-week MYVoice experience is offered free of charge to young men aged 12 to 20, is unauditioned and culminates with performances at the Chan Centre as part of Chor Leoni’s VanMan Male Choral Summit.
More than $100,000 was raised in support of Big Sisters of BC Lower Mainland at the 10th annual Grapejuice wine auction presented by Capital Direct Income Trust. Founded by McNeill Nakamoto Recruitment Group and MLA Canada, this annual celebration of mentoring raises funds to support Big Sisters’ three mentoring programs for young girls across the Lower Mainland. •
