Development/Construction

Alain Bergeron, Liza Bugar and Ross Gibson have been appointed president, group benefits consultant and senior group benefits consultant, respectively, at Independent Contractors and Businesses Association (ICBA) Benefit Services Ltd. Bergeron has joined ICBA following a 17-year career with Standard Life Canada, where he was instrumental in Standard Life’s expansion throughout Western Canada. Bugar has 17 years of experience in the group benefits industry, and for the past five years she worked closely with several municipalities’ benefit programs. Gibson has more than 35 years of experience in the employee benefits field and has spent the last 24 years as a senior benefits consultant specializing in large-case consulting.

Suzanne Bailuk and Savva Hatzisavva have been appointed vice-president, finance, and vice-president, construction, respectively, at the Haebler Group. Bailuk and Hatzisavva have been with the company since 2002.

Education

Leslie “Skip” Triplett has been elected chair of the board of governors at LaSalle College Vancouver, a private boutique design school located in Yaletown and part of the LCI Education network, which has 22 campuses on five continents. Triplett worked at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) for more than 20 years in various senior capacities, including two successive terms as president. Since leaving KPU, Triplett has been managing partner at Triplett & Triplett Advisors.

Finance

Kerry Hadad has been elected to the Central 1 Credit Union board of directors. Elmer Epp and Bill Kiss have been re-elected to the board; each director has been elected for a three-year term.

Armita Seyedalikhani has joined BlueShore Financial as communications manager. Seyedalikhani has extensive experience with strategic planning, project management and marketing communications in the financial services and technology industries.

Hospitality/Tourism/Convention

Harding & Co. has joined the team at Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia. Harding & Co., led by principal Will Harding, will be leading the organization’s marketing and sales strategy to promote and drive business for its stakeholders and aboriginal experiences throughout the province. Harding was previously manager, global marketing, Destination Canada, and has also worked for the Tourism Industry Association of BC, a variety of media and public relations agencies and the Office of the Premier of British Columbia.

Legal

Stewart Lockwood and Graham Scott have joined McCullough O’Connor Irwin LLP as associate counsel. Both lawyers will continue to practise corporate and securities law.

Manufacturing

David A. Terry has joined Comstock Metals Ltd. as president, CEO and director. Terry is an economic geologist, senior executive and corporate director with more than 25 years of international experience in the mineral resources sector.

Technology

Bruce Colwill and Jean-François Béland have been appointed chief financial officer and vice-president, government relations and corporate affairs, respectively, at General Fusion. Colwill has more than 25 years of experience and has been CFO at several companies, most recently at Neuromed Pharmaceuticals. Béland most recently served as executive vice-president of Areva Canada, the Canadian division of the international nuclear energy company; he is based in Ottawa.

Mitchel Shore has been appointed chief marketing officer at Urban Communications Inc. Shore has more than 30 years of experience in brand and marketing strategy, and was founder and chief marketing officer at Yak Communications.

This national recognition adds to the franchising fame of founder U. Gary Charlwood – he was the first non-U.S. citizen appointed board chair for the International Franchise Association (IFA) and also the first Canadian to be inducted into the IFA Hall of Fame.

Envision Financial, a division of First West Credit Union, raised more than $2,300 and 180 kilograms of food for the Full Cupboard, its signature community program designed to raise food, funds and awareness for local food banks, at its recent Shred It and Forget It event. More than 200 residents brought hundreds of boxes full of personal documents to the shredder for secure, safe disposal on location at Envision Financial’s new Cloverdale branch. •
