The Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of BC has elected a new president, Michael Wrinch, and council for the 2015-16 term. Bob Stewart will serve as VP and John Clague serves as past president. Newly elected councillors are Richard Farbridge, Cassandra Hall, David Harvey, Scott Martin, Chris Moser, Kathy Tarnai-Lokhorst and government appointee John Turner.
Education
Sébastien Beaulieu has been appointed adjunct professor at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business at the University of Victoria. Currently, Beaulieu is executive director, Middle East relations, Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development, for the Government of Canada.
Finance
Lisa Skakun has joined Mogo Finance Technology Inc. in the newly created role of chief legal and administrative officer. Skakun most recently served as general counsel, SVP of corporate development and corporate secretary for Coast Capital Savings credit union.

Jason Isley has joined Nurse Next Door Home Care Services as senior manager, franchise development. Isley previously worked at 1-800-GOT-JUNK and will be focused on Nurse Next Door’s growth in the U.S.
Hospitality and Tourism
Andrew Wray, chief business development officer and partner at WhiteWater West Industries Ltd., has been welcomed into the World Waterpark Association’s Hall of Fame. Wray has been an industry leader in designing and building some of the world’s most memorable attractions, and played an early role in pioneering wave pool technology and design.

Shaun Carpenter and Shelina Esmail have been appointed partners at PFM Executive Search. Carpenter and Esmail have been with PFM for 17 years, most recently as associate partners.
Legal
Teio Senda and John Willcock recently joined Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP as associates in the firm’s Kelowna office. Senda has joined the solicitor group while Willcock has joined the litigation group.
Christopher Munroe has joined Roper Greyell LLP as an associate. Prior to joining Roper Greyell, Munroe practised law at a national firm in Vancouver.

Amanda B. Chow has been appointed CFO at Calyx Bio-Ventures Inc., replacing interim CFO, Gavin M. McMillan, who will now be taking over in the capacity of director, corporate communications.
Real Estate
Tom Garvey has joined Macdonald Realty as its managing broker for the firm’s Coquitlam and Maple Ridge offices. Garvey has several years of experience and has served the Fraser Valley and Greater Vancouver real estate boards on a number of committees including education, technology, MLS and professional conduct. Garvey also acts as a student adviser for the Real Estate Institute of British Columbia.

Lawrence Watkins has been appointed VP, health and safety, at Teck Resources Ltd. He joined the company in 2014 as director, health and safety.
David Birkenshaw has resigned as a director at Kaizen Discovery Inc.
Tammy Neske, COO, Carmanah Technologies Corp., has left the company. John Simmons, CEO, will manage COO functions until a permanent COO is recruited.
Hats Off
Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.
PML Professional Mechanical Ltd. donated $42,000 to Wounded Warriors Canada, a non-profit organization supporting Canada’s ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans and families. Funds were raised through PML’s recent golf tournament.
Scotiabank donated $15,000 to the Canadian Liver Foundation. The funds will support liver research, education and support programs.
Hollyburn Properties Ltd. donated $1 million to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation. The funds will be used to bring new state-of-the-art MRI technology to the radiology department at Lions Gate Hospital.
Variety – The Children’s Charity donated $100,000 to Pathways Clubhouse in support of its 14:1 Capital Building campaign. Designated space in the new building will ensure that youth affected by mental illness will have a safe place to connect with other youth, develop friendships and use Pathways’ services.
Avison Young (AY) Vancouver’s staff volunteered, as part of AY’s annual global day of giving, at Atira Women’s Resource Society’s Imouto Housing for Young Women single-room accommodation, a low-barrier supportive housing project in the Downtown Eastside. AY staff spent the day repainting, landscaping and constructing a new patio deck and gazebo to accommodate a new barbecue, provided by Northwest Stoves, as well as preparing care packages for each of the residents. Construction materials were donated by IBMD while the plants were donated by GardenWorks.
The Vancouver Whitecaps FC donated $1 million to BC Children’s Hospital through the club’s 50/50 program and other team initiatives. The funds will help create a Whitecaps FC-themed playroom in the new Teck acute care centre (opening 2017) at the hospital and purchase anesthesia monitors. •
