Development/Construction

Kim Barnsley has joined Michael Green Architecture as a senior associate. Barnsley, formerly with Perkins + Will, has more than 20 years of experience in architecture and design, specializing in multi-residential development.

Finance

Stephanie Tsui and Grant Conroy have been appointed director of Asian wealth and associate portfolio manager, respectively, at Genus Capital Management Inc. Prior to this appointment, Tsui was director of ultra-high-net-worth investment solutions, Asia Pacific, at Credit Suisse’s Hong Kong offices, and before that she was in the investment banking division at Goldman Sachs. Conroy has more than 17 years of equity and financial markets experience that he gained with Goldman Sachs in London, England.

Hospitality/Tourism/Convention

Damon Campbell, Kristian Eligh and Michael Steh have recently joined Browns Restaurant Group. Campbell has been appointed culinary director; he most recently held the role of executive chef at Bosk, the Shangri-La Hotel’s signature restaurant in Toronto. Eligh and Steh have both been appointed culinary development chefs. Eligh has more than 10 years of experience and most recently worked as culinary director for Hawksworth Restaurant Group.Prior to his current appointment, Steh held the title of executive chef for the Chase Hospitality Group in Toronto.

Courtney Haddix has been appointed sales manager at Tourism Richmond. Haddix has more than 10 years of sales experience and most recently served as the catering and events manager at the Quilchena Golf and Country Club.

Legal

Derek Mah has joined Harper Grey LLP’s critical injury group as associate counsel. Since 2006, Mah has focused his practice on representing only people who have been hurt. Mah’s training and experience as a former physiotherapist and defence lawyer provides him with unique insights into the medical and legal issues that his clients face.

Non-profit

Jo-Ann Wood, chair, North Shore Hospice and Palliative Project, and Curt Bernardi, senior vice-president, legal and corporate secretary, Silver Wheaton Corp., have been appointed to Lions Gate Hospital Foundation’s board of directors. Also elected were Pierre Lebel(Imperial Metals), chair; Kevin Falcon (Anthem Capital Corp.) and Michael O’Callaghan (Korn/Ferry International), vice-chairs; Fred Yada (former partner, Dale, Matheson, Carr-Hilton, La Bonte LLP), treasurer; and Mark Hannah (Nicola Crosby), secretary. Returning directors include Chris Carter (ScotiaMcLeod), Liz Dickson (Lions Gate Hospital Auxiliary), Sandra Enticknap (Miller Thomson LLP), Coryn Hemsley and Gabrielle Loren (Loren, Nancke & Co.), Stephen Murphy (Canadian Western Bank), Taleeb Noormohamed (Impasto) and Fred Wright (Capital West Partners). Also appointed as directors were Isabelle Hughan (vice-president, medical staff, Lions Gate Hospital) and Karin Olson (COO, Coastal region, Vancouver Coastal Health).

Real Estate

Steve Blacklock, a Courtenay-based commercial property appraiser with Wm. S. Jackson & Associates, has been re-elected president of the British Columbia association of the Appraisal Institute of Canada for a one-year term.

Bindi Watts has joined the Value Property Group, a privately held commercial real estate holding group, as senior leasing associate and will be based out of the company’s Surrey leasing office in Newton. Watts, a licensed commercial real estate broker, previously worked at Cushman & Wakefield.

Resources

John Morita has resigned as a director of Mineral Mountain Resources Ltd. and will continue to serve as chief financial officer of the company until the end of this year.

Technology

Marty Hasselbach has joined Fully Managed, a Vancouver-based IT company that provides IT strategy and support, private cloud and voice services to the mid-size business market across Canada, as its chief operations officer.  Hasselbach has more than 25 years of experience; previous roles include COO of Simba Technologies and managing director of Vancouver Film School.

Hats Off

The Mechanical Contractors Association of British Columbia and Electrical Contractors Association of BC’s joint Prince George Golf Tournament, held at the Prince George Golf & Curling Club, raised $3,120 for the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation.

The Rotary Club of New Westminster donated $5,000 to the Justice Institute of British Columbia Foundation for the purchase of five automated external defibrillator trainers for students at the JIBC Paramedic Academy.

For a second year in a row, the Chilliwack Elks donated $1,500 to Coquitlam-based Children of the Street Society to support the delivery of the society’s sexual exploitation prevention workshops in Chilliwack.

Room to Read recently hosted the Destination Global Literacy Gala at Terminal City Club to raise funds for girls’ education in the developing world, particularly Asia and Africa. The gala raised $1 million to fund the building of schools and libraries in these countries to promote literacy and gender equality.

Tracy Price Wealth Management Team – RBC and the RBC Foundation donated $1,500 to Crossroads Hospice Society. A portion of the funds will be used to buy gifts for the society’s “Hospice Giving Tree” at the annual Treasures of Christmas Fundraising Gala on November 19 at the Hard Rock Casino theatre. The remainder will fund three months of a music program at Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice. •
