Aliza Premji has joined Miller Thomson LLP as an associate in the firm’s business law group.
Paul Kennedy has joined the partnership at Lindsay Kenney LLP. Kennedy’s practice is focused on corporate commercial law, mergers and acquisitions, commercial real estate matters and secured lending transactions.
Cassandra Drake has also joined the firm’s partnership as a general litigator with a primary focus on family law.
Allison Lepp has joined Harper Grey LLP as a contract lawyer in the firm’s health law group. Previously, Lepp worked in commercial litigation and health law at Bennett Jones LLP.
Peter Savagian has joined ElectraMeccanica Vehicles Corp. as an independent director. Savagian is currently senior vice-president of engineering at Ampaire Electric EEL, a California-based electric aircraft startup. Prior to Ampaire, Savagian helped bring 13 electrified automobiles into production at General Motors.

Kerry McLaughlin has been appointed president of the Insurance Institute of British Columbia (IIBC). McLaughlin is an associate vice-president with HUB International. She succeeds Sharon Craver, who now serves as past president.
Kelly Krakonchuk, Sarah Tung and Debra Copeland have been appointed first vice-president, second vice-president and secretary-treasurer, respectively, of IIBC’s 2019-20 governing council.
Melissa Stedman, Spencer Denton, Vicki Rowan, Angela McIldoon, Jason Hall and Carol Ann Slack have been appointed as IIBC council chairs.

Terry Dowle has been elected president of the Appraisal Institute of Canada – British Columbia (AIC-BC) for 2019-20. Dowle is a senior partner in Niemi LaPorte & Dowle Appraisals Ltd. and a founding partner of NLD Consulting and Niemi LaPorte & Dowle Whistler Appraisal Group Ltd. Dowle was appointed to the board of AIC-BC in 2013.
Hats Off
Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.
The Society for a Drug Free BC donated $1,000 to Boys and Girls Clubs of South Coast BC. The funds will be used to support after-school programs at the organization’s Wintemute club, which serves children and families living in the Ladner area.
Avison Young’s Vancouver staff donated landscaping upgrades and painting services to East Vancouver’s Cedar Cottage Neighbourhood House. The contribution was part of the company’s annual day of giving and was sponsored by Freshii, Sherwin-Williams, Arrow Equipment Ltd., Surrey Cedar Ltd., Colin Griffinson Inc., Kerrisdale Equipment and Willy’s Rubbish Removal.
Canada Post Community Foundation donated $25,000 to Canucks Autism Network. The funds will support programs for individuals with autism and their families. In 2019, 118 groups across Canada will receive funding from the foundation, including 15 in B.C. Over the past eight years, the foundation has allocated more than $8 million to more than 780 projects.•
