Ciccozzi Architecture has appointed three staff members to the firm’s leadership team. Ching-Te Earl Peng, Darrell Radom and Erin Szpilewski are the firm’s newest associates. As well, the existing management team made up of Gerry Bell, Kathleen Gibney, Shannon Seefeldt and Steve Watt will now be known as senior associates, each assuming additional managerial responsibilities under the leadership of firm principal Rob Ciccozzi.
Finance
Matt Price has been appointed managing director in the growth and transition capital division of BDC Capital. Prior to joining BDC in 2013, Price worked in the investment banking group at Scotiabank in both Canada and Asia. He will be based in Vancouver and focused on growing BDC Capital’s investment portfolio in British Columbia and Northern Canada.
Barry Delaney has been appointed interim president and CEO of Northern Savings Credit Union. Prior to this appointment, Delaney was an executive team member with Langley-based First West Credit Union for 17 years. Delaney replaces Sharon Stromdahl, who stepped in temporarily after the departure of the previous CEO. Stromdahl has returned to her role as SVP, chief operations officer, for the credit union.
Hospitality/Tourism
Michael Drake has been appointed director of sales, meetings and conventions, international, at Tourism Vancouver. Drake brings 20 years of hospitality industry experience to the role including positions at Hyatt Hotels and Fairmont Hotels. For the past seven years, Drake has been employed by Starwood Hotels in Toronto, most recently as the associate director of international and association sales.
Darren Simpson and Emily Kim have joined the Burrard Hotel as general manager and assistant general manager, respectively. Simpson previously worked with the Fairmont brand at three of its B.C. properties and, immediately prior to his current appointment, was field accommodation manager, Christina Lake, for Cenovus Energy. Kim was previously assistant front office manager/reservations manager at the Wedgewood Hotel & Spa. Previously, she held positions at Shangri-La Hotel Vancouver and River Rock Casino Resort.
Legal
Jeffrey Bichard recently joined the estate planning and estate administration groups at Legacy Tax + Trust Lawyers. BIchard completed his articles at DLA Piper (Canada) LLP.
Nikki Alvarez, Matt Laszuk and Roja Safartabar have joined Farris, Vaughan, Wills & Murphy LLP as associates. All three completed their articles at the firm. Alvarez has joined the firm’s corporate practice, Laszuk has joined the litigation group and Safartabar has joined the firm’s family law group.
Jay C. Shin has joined Gowlings’ Vancouver office as a corporate commercial partner and co-leader of the firm’s Korea initiative. Shin recently returned to Canada after several years as a partner at one of Korea’s largest law firms, and provides strategic advice to Korean and Canadian companies involved in commercial transactions across a wide range of sectors. An active member of the Korean-Canadian business community, Shin served as regional governor of Western Canada for the International Association of Korean Lawyers for 10 years. He is also a past director and vice-president of the Canada Korea Business Association, and is a past treasurer of the Canadian Bar Association BC Branch’s banking law section.

Kristin Jamieson has been appointed partner at Compton Fundraising Consultants Canada Ltd. Jamieson¹s experience with the firm includes capital campaign management, fundraising assessments and donor communications for not-for-profit clients such as the Arts Club, Bard on the Beach, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., Streetohome Foundation and numerous others.

Newmarket Gold’s Australian senior operating team, which includes all general managers, will now report directly to Douglas Forster, president and CEO of Newmarket. Rodney Lamond will be stepping down as COO to return to North America, effective September 15, 2015.
Hats Off
Business in Vancouver welcomes submissions from local small businesses and large corporations alike that demonstrate examples of corporate philanthropy and community involvement in the Vancouver area. High-resolution images are also welcome.
RBC Foundation donated $5,000 to the Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada, B.C. and Yukon chapter. RBC employees will raise an additional $5,000 to a goal of $10,000 – the average cost to grant a wish for a child living with a life-threatening illness.
Scotiabank donated $150,000 to the Pacific Autism Family Foundation. The funds will be used for the new “hub and spoke” modelled centre to be located in Richmond.
Anthem Properties Group donated $25,000 to Coast Mental Health. The funds will be used to provide supportive housing and recovery programs for people with mental illness.
The Glotman-Simpson Cycling Club and Glotman-Simpson Consulting Engineers raised more than $420,000 for the BC Cancer Foundation at the eighth annual Cypress Challenge, a fundraiser for pancreatic cancer in memory of Darren Latoski. The 12-kilometre cycle up Cypress Mountain was presented by Sunstone Realty Advisors Inc.
Obakki Foundation supporters raised $36,159.42 for the Vancouver-based foundation’s humanitarian projects in Africa, through its Live with a Purpose competition.
Flight Centre Canada employees from across the country – nine from B.C., six from Ontario and three from Alberta – recently completed a five-day trekking expedition in Iceland, raising $50,000 for Make-A-Wish Canada. •
