The starting salaries for Canadians in professional occupations are expected to increase in 2014, according to Robert Half's 2014 Salary Guides released October 16.
Starting salaries for professionals will increase an average of 4% next year, according to the data. Technology positions will see the greatest increase, with a jump of 5.5% for new workers.
"In today's competitive market, there is an increasing trend toward hiring professionals who have the specialized skills required to help companies successfully achieve their business goals," said Greg Scileppi, president of Robert Half's international staffing operations.
"Robert Half's annual salary guides are developed with businesses in mind, giving hiring managers access to the resources they need to make smart hiring decisions, like the latest compensation trends, as well as advice for attracting and retaining top performers."
Other key points in the salary guides include:
- salaries for newly hired accounting and finance professionals are forecast to increase by 3.2% in 2014; and
- administrative professionals are expected to see a 3.2% increase in starting salaries.
