Vancouver employers were in no hurry to put out their help wanted signs in April, the Conference Board of Canada reported today.
In May, Vancouver suffered the biggest drop across the country, according the conference board’s Canada Help-Wanted Index, a national measure of online job postings.
However, job prospects in the Abbotsford-Mission area were brighter. That region saw an increase in employers looking for new hires, along with Saint John, Edmonton, Ottawa and Oshawa.
Job posting numbers were stable in Halifax, Quebec, Saskatoon and Victoria.
Earlier this month, Statistics Canada reported that B.C.’s labour market had added 9,500 jobs after shedding 15,000 in March. The province’s unemployment rate also dropped, to 6.4% from 7%. The national unemployment rate stood unchanged at 7.2%.
