More than half of British Columbian can't find a proper work-life balance, according to a new poll.
The survey from Insights West found 55% B.C. residents consider work to take precedence over their lifestyle.
Just 31% of those polled described their work-life balance as "perfect."
"The survey clearly shows that the era of the 9-to-5 job is unquestionably over," Insights West vice-president Mario Canseco said in a statement.
The survey found 67% of British Columbians have had to stay late at work sometime in the last six months.
Another 42% have had to work from home in the evening. The same number of British Columbians said work has put a strain on their personal relationships.
"A very high proportion of employed British Columbians are having a tough time with their work-life balance because they are taking the office home and dealing with supervisors who have higher immediacy and reach expectations," Canseco said.
Results are based on an online study conducted Feb. 3 to Feb. 5, 2014, among 541 employed B.C. residents. The survey has a margin of error of plus-or-minus 4.2%, 19 times out of 20.
