B.C. homes sales in 2013 bounced 7.8% compared with 2012, according to the BC Real Estate Association (BCREA).
There were 72,936 residential sales in 2013, according to MLS listings for B.C. – a 7.8% increase over 2012's sales of 67,637.
The dollar value of residential sales was up as well. Sales in 2013 totalled $39.2 billion, an increase of 12.6% over 2012.
"After declining nearly 12% in 2012, home sales posted steady growth through last year," said Cameron Muir, BCREA's chief economist. "Greater Vancouver, Kamloops and Okanagan Mainline board areas posted the most significant changes, with home sales rising between 12.5% and 14%.
"Stronger consumer demand, combined with fewer homes listed for sale, improved market conditions in most regions last year."
The five-year average for residential sales in B.C. is 75,400 units; the ten-year average 84,800.
December figures show B.C. home sales up 47% compared with December 2012, and the total dollar value up 67.7%.
