Homes sales across B.C. jumped 20% in August compared with the same month a year prior, according to the B.C. Real Estate Association (BCREA).

Even an economic slowdown across Canada wasn’t able to curb interest in the province’s real estate market so far this year.

BCREA data released Friday (September 11) reveals total sales volume for 2015 has reached $5.5 billion, a 33% increase compared with 2014.

“More homes were sold in BC during the first eight months of the year than in the entire 12 months of 2012,” BCREA chief economist Cameron Muir said in a statement.

The Multiple Listing Service recorded the average price for a home in B.C. was $619,900 in August 2015, increasing 10.6% from August 2014.

In Metro Vancouver, where sales increased 21.3% last month compared with the same period a year prior, the average home price was even pricier at $708,500.
