Vancouver and Victoria were the only two Canadian cities to see a year-over-year decline in new housing prices in April, according to Statistics Canada data released June 13.
The New Housing Price Index fell by 0.6% in Vancouver and 1.5% in Victoria in April compared with the previous year, versus a nationwide increase of 2% for the same period.
The greatest gains from April 2012 to April 2013 were found in:
- Winnipeg (5.5%);
- Calgary (4.7%);
- Regina (3.1%); and
- Toronto and Oshawa (2.9%).
From March to April of this year, new housing prices increased nationwide by 0.2%, and 0.1% in Vancouver.
