The Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) released statistics July 15 that showed national home sales rose for the fourth consecutive month.

The number of home sales processed through Multiple Listing Service (MLS) and other listings systems across Canada rose 3.3% in June 2013 compared with May, according to the CREA.

Sales activity is now running 11% above where it stood in February, the CREA said.

“For the second month in a row, sales improved in the majority of local markets,” said CREA president Laura Leyser.

The Real Estate Board of Greater Vancouver released stats earlier this month that showed sales were down in 8.3% in June compared with May but were 12% greater than in June 2012.

June sales in Metro Vancouver in June were 22.2% below the 10-year average for the month whereas new listings for the month were 11.5% below the 10-year average.

The average home price in Metro Vancouver fell 3% in June compared with June 2012. The best performing city in Metro Vancouver is Pitt Meadows, where prices rose 1.5% in June compared with June 2012.

Every other part of Metro Vancouver saw some price depreciation. The biggest price drop in June in the Metro Vancouver Sea-to-Sky corridor compared with June 2012 was Whistler, where prices fell 8%.
