Q&A with Corinne Caldwell, Forty Under 40 Winner 2020; COO, BC Real Estate Association, Age 36

Who or what is responsible for your work ethic?

Leading by example, my parents taught me the value of setting goals and working hard to achieve them.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Eating waffles and ice cream for breakfast.

What is the best book you would recommend?

Power of One – Bryce Courtenay

Now that you’re entering your 40s, what goals have you set for yourself?

Professionally: embrace challenges and opportunities for continuous growth and coaching. Volunteer: design and implement practical strategies to address wildlife conservation concerns in Africa.

Choose one of these five childhood career dreams: rock star, star athlete, prime minister, astronaut, detective.

Name your happiest place.

When home, I’m happy on Mayne Island with my dog; I’m happiest travelling to remote countries to experience majestic, endangered wildlife.

What was your toughest business or professional decision?

Losing mentors and team members through significant restructuring then transforming this into an opportunity to strengthen my skillset and empower my team.

Advice you would give your 20-year-old self?

Trust your instincts. Data is necessary, but sometimes you need to trust yourself to make the best decision, which won’t always align with the data.

What is your best habit?

Learn something new every day, big or small, then challenge myself to apply that new knowledge to make a difference.

Tell us one improbable fact about yourself.

I’m as comfortable with a computer as a tool belt. I personally tile, perform electrics/carpentry, replace windows, lay flooring.

Best piece of advice ever received?

My grandmother advised me to always do it now: pursue experiences, explore the world. Don’t wait for tomorrow.

What career highlight are you most proud of?

Reaching a position in my career that allows me to meaningfully volunteer in governance roles with organizations that align with my values and goals.
