The Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association (GVHBA) announced September 25 that Bob de Wit will take over as CEO on November 1 from 68-year-old Peter Simpson, who is retiring after heading the organization for the past 18 years.

The 44-year-old, who starts full time at the GVHBA on October 1, is leaving the post of CEO at GreenAngel Energy, a publicly traded venture fund that invests in clean energy.

“I want to increase the trade between members – help the suppliers and builders connect with one another as well as the suppliers with suppliers,” de Wit told Business in Vancouver after his appointment was announced.

“I’d also like to do more work with government engagement and working closer with the municipalities than we have in the past.”

One of his goals, he said, was to get the municipalities to be more consistent in permit approval processes.

“Our membership is up to 740 members so while I think there’s a lot more that can be done, there’s a strong base from which to work.”
