Housing starts in the Vancouver Census Metropolitan Area were trending at a higher level in August compared with July, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) data released September 10.
The seasonally adjusted, six-month moving average was 19,424 units in August, an increase of almost 2.8% over 18,897 in July.
“Vancouver housing starts trended higher in August compared to July, as new home construction has returned to August 2012 levels,” said Lance Jakubec, CMHC’s senior market analyst for Vancouver.
Housing starts in Abbotsford were trending at 598 units in August, down from 814 in July – almost a 27% dip.
