Brian Bonney, incoming CEO of the Canadian Home Builders' Association of B.C. (CHBA BC) told Business in Vancouver yesterday that he is not leaving a sinking ship by quitting his post as the B.C. government's director of communications for multiculturalism.
"No, definitely not," Bonney said. "This new job is my true love. I have a passion to work on behalf of small business in B.C., and to do so with an industry that is responsible for $15 billion in economic activity in B.C. is huge."
The CHBA BC is the B.C. branch of the Canadian Home Builders' Association, which calls itself "the voice of Canada's residential construction industry," representing more than 6,800 member firms across Canada.
Bonney, whose new job starts February 25, said some of his priorities are to focus on boosting his organization's membership and improving opportunities for education and training.
Bonney was director of provincial affairs at the Canadian Federation of Independent Business for three years before leaving in 2011 to become director of sales and then vice-president of sales at Uniserve.
He then left in November 2011 to the cabinet-appointed job of director of communications, multiculturalism, with the B.C. government.
