Vancouver-based BigSteelBox Structures unveiled what they are calling “the world’s most luxurious workcamps” at a liquefied natural gas conference in Vancouver this week.
The International LNG in BC Conference included a tour of the blue boxes outfitted as high-end, condo-style accommodation for workers in B.C. gas fields. Premier Christy Clark was scheduled to join the tour at noon on Friday.
The 10-foot by 40-foot blue steel boxes are equipped with air-conditioning, stainless appliances, computer workstations, flat screen TV and floor-to-ceiling windows, with a price-point consistent with industry trends. Units can be constructed starting from $120,000, according to a company spokesman.
To meet potential demand for workforce housing, BigSteelBox has added a manufacturing facility in Kelowna, doubling its current capacity, according to company president Devon Siebenga.
