Home sales in Vancouver were up in March compared with February, according to Canadian Real Estate Association (CREA) data released this morning.

There were 2,122 homes sold in Vancouver in March, an 8.6% increase compared with the number of homes sold the previous month (1,954).

Year-over-year, however, sales remain lower, with a decrease of 18.9% from March 2012 (not seasonally adjusted.).

Nationally, home sales increased 2.4% in March compared with the previous month, but were down 15.3% from March 2012.

"Easter and trading day factors combined effectively to cut March sales short," said CREA chief economist Gregory Klump.

"Activity in the months ahead will reveal whether the monthly improvement in seasonally adjusted March sales reflects technical seasonal adjustment factors or a fundamental improvement in demand."

The greatest increases compared with February were found in Regina (12.2%) and Saskatoon (15.2%).

Edmonton was the only city with year-over-year gains in March, with a 0.7% increase.
